About Me Quality Oriented
Comments about Amana 8,000 BTU Windowless Portable Air Conditioner:
I use this unit in my very large bedroom at night instead of keeping the central air on to cool the whole house. It keeps the bedroom cold and I usually end up lowering it or shutting it off during the night because I'm too cold. It may be a little noisy, but I find it soothing. I found that putting the unit on top of a table and off the ground keeps the air flowing better. The hose is flexible and the fitting into the unit and window is easy to install.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I had a 12,000 BTU portable a/c before for my room, which did cool the room faster and better but the only problem I had with that was the compressor would freeze because the BTU was too high for the room, so I decided to go lower in BTU and get this 8,000 BTU for my room and the truth is that, it doesn't cool the room as well as the higher BTU portable a/c's, additionally, it stopped working in two weeks then I had to exchange it for a second one which I am currently using and its the same, it doesn't cool room fast enough or evenly. This portable a/c doesn't cool as well as the window unit, but it gets the temperature down. I ran the unit all night with a target temperature of 70 degrees (just to test it) and it never went below 75 degrees. Overall, hope Amana made better portable a/c's for cheaper prices. Additionally, P.C. Richards doesn't carry 9,000 BTU portable a/c by Amana, hope they will in the coming months before the summer is over.
Do not purchase
We will have to buy another unit for our daughter's tiny nursery. Once it is on, It only cools where the fan is directed to, but somehow heats up the entire rest of the room. Maybe the exhaust pipe is not sufficient to carry out the hot air? We Actually have to open her room to cool it better once the machine is on. A colossal waste of money. Do not purchase.

Unit is not of any use to me. Wish I had looked this up before I purchased it. It cool very minimally, but does not do what it says 800 BTU for 256 sq ft, yeah right! Actually tried to look it up while in store, but couldn't get internet on phone (I even joked with sales person about them blocking the internet in the store).
Nice idea but too weak to cool tiny room

I bought this product to cool a 10X10 room, not a large room by any means. The unit blows out cool (not cold) air but really only cools maybe 4-5 feet directly in front of it. It takes a long time for entire room cooling to take effect and even then its not by much. If I leave the machine on for 4-5 hours it will bring the temperature of the entire room down MAYBE 5 degrees but unfortunately it's never cooled the room more than 5 degrees no matter how long I have left it on. It is not energy effecient at all. During the summer months I will have it on for 10-12 hours a night and my monthly con ed bill will increase $140-$160. The machine makes noise but I wouldn't say it is loud by any means. It does need to be fairly close to a window to vent but i didn't find that very annoying. What is annoying is that the cord is not very long so finding a spot for the machine close to a window and close to electric can be difficult, especially in older buildings. It has wheels and is portable. I definetly would not recommend this product. For the money you pay it does not do even close to a good enough job.

I had to have it professionally installed but it was worth not dealing with a non-user friendly install. Yeah, it's noisy and takes up a lot of floor space, not to mention the tube that has to go out of the window. But it's a life saver for the elderly. .

It could be a great unit. It is easy to install. However, one of the fan speeds broke within a month of using the product. Also, it just doesn't work once it gets really hot. If it's slightly warm outside, the unit is great. If there is a heat wave, God bless you because this unit is not going to cool anything. I keep this unit in my master bedroom. It takes about 8 hours to cool the room down. (I'm not kidding). Meanwhile the little Sharp window units I bought for kids cool the rooms down within 10 minutes. Grrrrr.

Not what it seems

About Me White male early 30th
Alright~! here we go. Other reviews do not really describe the unit as well as it should be!I"m cooling small nursery, 10 by 6. On the hot night or day unit can not cool down below 76. 8000BTUs for 60 square feet room! can not cool. It says portable.. but guess what.. it has to be vented out in to the window and there is a plastic pipe that comes with it and it's only 5 feet long.. so.. how portable it is.. remains a mystery to me. It's LOUD! for such a small unit which don't forget comparing to window unit actually take up room in your room, is very freaking loud. IT does not have auto shut off function, I was told at the store that it does.. and it actually does not. To use dehumidifier option.. a/c unit has to drained constantly, Also.. ones you buy A/C at pc richards there is no going back. I hate this policy . I wanted to return the unit but they would not take it back because it was opened! yes I used it too, otherwise I would never find out how bad this unit really was, but that's the whole point of returns and customer satisfaction right? is to give back unit to the store if you dont like it.. and they just dont care. I wonder if PC richard will post my comment as it will most likely hinder their sales.. I will check on it.
