Comments about Amana 8,000 BTU Windowless Portable Air Conditioner:
The machine seemed to work fine in the year that we had it. But the next year we weren't as fortunate. Temperature reading changed from Celsius to Fahrenheit randomly. Would not go any lower that 88 degrees. It was horrible. It'll play with your mind. Will start at 89 then go down to 88 (after 30 mins) then jump up again smh. Ridiculous.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Cools room but is overly loud, even on low setting.
from Kew Gardens Hills, NY
This unit is used in a 10 x 13 room. It cools the room quickly. It is very loud, even on the lowest setting.

By Cold at night
I use this unit in my very large bedroom at night instead of keeping the central air on to cool the whole house. It keeps the bedroom cold and I usually end up lowering it or shutting it off during the night because I'm too cold. It may be a little noisy, but I find it soothing. I found that putting the unit on top of a table and off the ground keeps the air flowing better. The hose is flexible and the fitting into the unit and window is easy to install.

About Me Quality Oriented, Value Oriented
I had a 12,000 BTU portable a/c before for my room, which did cool the room faster and better but the only problem I had with that was the compressor would freeze because the BTU was too high for the room, so I decided to go lower in BTU and get this 8,000 BTU for my room and the truth is that, it doesn't cool the room as well as the higher BTU portable a/c's, additionally, it stopped working in two weeks then I had to exchange it for a second one which I am currently using and its the same, it doesn't cool room fast enough or evenly. This portable a/c doesn't cool as well as the window unit, but it gets the temperature down. I ran the unit all night with a target temperature of 70 degrees (just to test it) and it never went below 75 degrees. Overall, hope Amana made better portable a/c's for cheaper prices. Additionally, P.C. Richards doesn't carry 9,000 BTU portable a/c by Amana, hope they will in the coming months before the summer is over.
Do not purchase
We will have to buy another unit for our daughter's tiny nursery. Once it is on, It only cools where the fan is directed to, but somehow heats up the entire rest of the room. Maybe the exhaust pipe is not sufficient to carry out the hot air? We Actually have to open her room to cool it better once the machine is on. A colossal waste of money. Do not purchase.

Unit is not of any use to me. Wish I had looked this up before I purchased it. It cool very minimally, but does not do what it says 800 BTU for 256 sq ft, yeah right! Actually tried to look it up while in store, but couldn't get internet on phone (I even joked with sales person about them blocking the internet in the store).
Nice idea but too weak to cool tiny room

I bought this product to cool a 10X10 room, not a large room by any means. The unit blows out cool (not cold) air but really only cools maybe 4-5 feet directly in front of it. It takes a long time for entire room cooling to take effect and even then its not by much. If I leave the machine on for 4-5 hours it will bring the temperature of the entire room down MAYBE 5 degrees but unfortunately it's never cooled the room more than 5 degrees no matter how long I have left it on. It is not energy effecient at all. During the summer months I will have it on for 10-12 hours a night and my monthly con ed bill will increase $140-$160. The machine makes noise but I wouldn't say it is loud by any means. It does need to be fairly close to a window to vent but i didn't find that very annoying. What is annoying is that the cord is not very long so finding a spot for the machine close to a window and close to electric can be difficult, especially in older buildings. It has wheels and is portable. I definetly would not recommend this product. For the money you pay it does not do even close to a good enough job.
