I've only been using the printer for about 2 weeks, which means there's a lot of features I have yet to explore. Here's what I can say so far. 1) Packaging of the item seemed solid. 2) How many times have we complained that setup or installation instructions were hard to understand? Not with this product. You can tell Brother takes great care in communicating with the customer & it's reflected in the setup instructions. Very easy to understand. 3) My laptop doesn't have a built-in CD drive, so I chose to download the installation package from Brother's website, which is probably the best thing to do anyway, considering you don't know how long the product has been on the shelf before you finally purchase the product & in between those times, updates to the software may have occurred. Downloading assures you of the most up-to-date software. 4. I was blown away at the speed of printing on this unit. It spit out my first printed job so fast - I thought something went wrong. But I looked at the paper & it was all there. The image looked clear & sharp as well. I use this for business & most of what I'm going to be printing is text - letters, labels, etc. 5. The paper tray seems a little light & not as sturdy as I would have expected, so I hope that over time as I pull the tray out & push it back in to change the paper, it will hold up. 6. I receive one or two emails a week from Brother (I chose this option when registering the product) to inform me of news & latest updates, etc. 7. When you logon to your computer each day, you'll see a small call-out box just above the status bar - far right. It says, "Brother Help," which is a nice feature, should you need a quick answer on something. You can "X" out the box & make it disappear if you don't want it to stay visible throughout the day. So far, I'm very impressed with the printer. I still can't believe how fast this prints - it's lightning fast.
Very nice product

I previous had a Canon Pixma all in one. I replaced it with the Brother MFC-J985DW. The Brother is easier to use and very user friendly. The print quality is good and the scans are excellent
Easy to setup and use!

This printer was definitely one of the easiest to setup, including connecting to our WiFi network. The screen is easy to navigate and understand, with shortcuts for ink levels and settings on the home screen (convenient). The print quality is acceptable, although not as good as a photo quality printer. Great for everyday office use.
not too bad
although the set-up and out put is pretty impressive, the yellow (cyan) output is a little weak. occasionally the machine will indicate there are no ink cartridges mounted, even though they are. so i have to go through re-seating them.

The good: Feature set matched my needs. Easy to operate, ergonomically well thought out. Black and white quality is good and printing reasonably fast. Two-sided printing works well. The middling: Would like a fast or draft quality option for quick review and stuff where high quality is not an issue. The bad: WiFi would not stay connected to the modem/router supplied by Comcast. Fortunately I also have an old Apple Time Capsule with a WiFi router and that combination has worked flawlessly for a couple months now. The Comcast is certainly more sophisticated (guessing beaming antennas, 2.4/5.0GHz autoswitching, etc), so it may be that these features are confusing the printer's networking. Color prints are washed out compared to my old HP. It didn't bother me much when I read others complain about the color quality because we don't print much color and typically I am not very picky about this, but even Neandertbal me finds it lacking.
very easy to set-up
Great...except-- I can not find a way to put it to "sleep" so home button doesn't flash all night
Compact for an AIO.

I have had this printer for a few weeks. I love everything it is capable of performing; however, the speed is my biggest complaint. Since I am retired the speed is not a deal breaker. Particularly, I am looking forward to evaluating the ink usage. Also, I have a 8 y/o Brother B&W laser which has performed flawlessly.

Have only used for about a month. Still learning on how to use overall. Easy to hook up. A little slow with printing. Only con so far I have noticed is having to change the paper tray around when printing 4x6 pictures. With my HP I could change on screen with the separate 4x6 paper tray. Scanning is easy. Overall so far a good printer.
