Comments about Canon PowerShot Point & Shoot Digital Camera - Black:

The main features I look for in a camera are a viewfinder, a long zoom, a 3:2 setting and good low-light results. I have used this camera for a year, and I am blown away by the images it produces. At least a dozen friends have purchased this camera after seeing my prints--especially the first shot of the Super Moon. Three friends have ordered this model in the last three weeks because of my enthusiasm. I deducted a star because of the positioning of the timer and record buttons. They are directly under the thumb when the camera is gripped properly, and it is very inconvenient to have to disengage the timer when trying to take a regular shot. I'm considering buying another one to have as a back-up since none of the new models in this email have an eye-piece. I have been a camera entusiast for 65 years, and this is my first Canon.

Comments about Canon PowerShot Point & Shoot Digital Camera - Black:

This is my favorite camera I've ever owned. I took over 2000 pictures on a lengthy Western USA trip and had very few bad ones. A lot of pictures were made though the car windows. I had a lot of fun taking all kinds of shots with the huge zoom. Pictures of the moon look like they came from NASA. With the neck strap and the LCD turned to face upwards the camera functions a lot like a twin lens reflex with a waist level viewfinder. It's a great way to get steady shots. My ONLY complaint is that I have a hard time holding the camera without mistakenly pushing a button. My fix has been to try to keep my thumb in the LCD cavity (I rarely use the EVF).

The major improvement in the SX50 are: photo quality, Improved Macro capability, RAW function was added, Zoom range improved. The SX50 replaces the SX40 after 172,000 images/actuation. This camera supplements my EOS 6D.

Comments about Canon PowerShot Point & Shoot Digital Camera - Black:

I am very well satisfied with my SX50HS, overall quality is excellent. If you realize the few shortcomings you can take pro pics. Battery life is excellent, low light possibilities are great. My biggest complaint is the slow focusing for in flight shots of birds. The camera is fantastic for macro shots using the long focal length (1200mm 35mm equiv>) which focuses at 4.3ft which allows some wonderful macro opportunities at a discreet distance from subject. Having that great magnification is really important although I have experienced very difficult focusing over water at the full extension (1200) even using manual focus. If you are like me and don't wish to carry around huge lenses, the camera is a godsend>

Just read the second review on this wonderful camera, and saw where they had the same problem that I have: you press the power button, and it doesn't work the first time. Almost took it back, but like my Cannons so much that I thought I'd stick it out. Another feature is that I somehow keep hitting the timer...it is in a bad place! The lens cover FINALLY stays put on this camera, a real plus. This is my 3rd PowerShot, & the BEST features are the zoom & quality on AUTO. The focus is great, and that little button on the view-finder puts it in a place that no glasses are needed to take pics. One bad upgrade: that battery needs to be charged. I had used regular AA batteries on the other two, keeping a set of 4 with me in case of emergencies. This battery pack doesn't allow regular battery use, and I had an emergency where I needed to record something but missed it entirely due to no battery for an hour. Otherwise, for the cost, this is a GREAT little camera & lets me continue to take high quality amateur pics that are often shown on our local ABC news.

Overall, I am extremely, but extremely pleased with this compact digital camera. I upgraded from a G-12 and well, there is just no comparison. One thing which has happened twice now is when I press the on/off power button, nothing happens. Frightening. I opened the battery/card compartment, took out the card and re-inserted it and pressed the power button again and it worked this time. This has happened twice and I wonder if this has come up as an issue. I have now downloaded the instruction booklet and am in the process of reading what it might have to say about sensitivity of the power button. I like this too much to return it for an exchange, i.e., don't want to be without it now.

Comments about Canon PowerShot Point & Shoot Digital Camera - Black:

This little camera is simply awesome. It's light and compact enough to carry in my purse. I have a 5D Mark 11, and a Rebel XT as well. Both are heavier cameras, and frankly I cannot afford to purchase an 800mm lens for birding. I bought this camera expressly to take with me on birding trips. WOW am I impressed. From my first test shots to now, about 3,000 shots later in two months, I am ecstatic about this camera. Many fellow birders, friends, and other travelers have asked me about this camera and I've recommended it to them all. Even on windy days I've managed to get great bird shots thanks to the IS feature. It takes some getting used to when the lens is fully extended, but it's definitely capable of getting non-shaky shots. In fact, the shots that I'm getting are nothing less than unbelievable. I tried the macro feature and was very unimpressed, but I have the awesome Canon 100mm L macro lens when I want to shoot close ups. Don't really need macro for birding. The camera is quite rugged as well. I dropped it this weekend - the sky filter shattered, but the camera itself is fine! Canon makes extremely tough and durable cameras. When this camera comes out with Wi-Fi, i'll purchase it again. And again. I do wish that some of the controls were not under 'menu'. For example, all my shots have been on automatic so far. Switching to video is extremely easy too. The only thing I don't like about that is with the sound on, you can hear the sound of the lens moving in and out. Overall, this camera gets an A+++ from me. I am super happy with it.
