All of the poor reviews have the same issues--too hard to clean, poor temp control, holes get blocked and rusting. If you buy this grill, you will spend more time cleaning it than cooking. And who cleans their grill after each use with soap, water and a nylon brush? By the time it cools the holes are clogged. Don't worry about cleaning the drip pan because the grease clogs the small holes and never gets to the pan. If it was a car, it would have been recalled.

I have had this the "Red" for about 3 years now. By far it is the best bbq I have owned. At first it was difficult to figure out the heat and time but now that I am familiar with the bbq I would never buy another kind. I use it for Tri-Tip, steaks, whole chicken, chicken pieces, chicken wing, but the best is pork ribs. I off-set cook a slab for about 3 hours then crank it up to sear (about 5 - 10 minutes) and put an even better crust on them and they are by far the best ribs ever. Patience is the key with the bbq as it is not like a regular propane grill or a charcoal grill. Figure it out and you will swear by it.

It does have good features.
I bought the grill less than two years ago. I have it setting on bricks because the right front wheel has completely rusted out and collapsed. Where the lower left panel connects to the base is no longer connected. The bolts are totally rusted. The door is no longer connected on the lower right side. I have already replaced the pan under the grills. It rusted. The ignition quit working. I ordered a new switch. I do keep it covered. I gave it two stars because I like its size and it does a great job with barbecue.
Nearly impossible to use
I received this grill last month as a birthday present. I requested the Tru Series because my mom owns one (different model than mine) and I've had success turning out great meals on it in the past. I put it together, tried cooking some chicken and had a horrible experience. Half the chicken stuck to the grates. I cleaned it up, greased the heck out of it, tried it again with the same results. I have seasoned/oiled this thing so many times I can't remember with zero success. Now, one month later the grate seems to be rusting. I am so frustrated that I don't even use the grill any more. I'm bummed, but my Mom who got the gift for me is the most dissapointed.
Impossible to Clean
I have had this grill for a year now and it is impossible to clean. While the corrugated grated do radiate heat well, it is impossible to Clean the tiny holes in the bottom. I have gone through 6 different brushes and burned myself multiple time trying to get them cleaned to no avail. Also, it does not matter what temperature you set the grill at, the gauges are always pegged at over 700degrees. I would definitely consider something with standard grates and working components before ever buying a "tru infared" product again. The idea is good. The execution, however, still needs a lot of refinement before it's actually ready for consumer sale.
Cooks great, but bad built-quality
Overall I am happy. I have only had it for a week though... I am really impressed with the cooking portion of this grill, it's great and love how effectively and quickly it grills/cooks any type of meats or veggies. I love the look, it is aesthetically pleasing and takes up little space when stored with it's sides down. It's therefore very practical for small spaces. I also like that they have incorporated two separate thermostats for each burner individually. The 'warmer' rack above the main grill is also large enough, and high enough so that it doesn't get in your way of the food on the main grill. It can reach 400 degrees Celsius in under 10 minutes. I grilled chicken breasts on it, thick sliced, which would usually take about 45 minutes in the oven, and only took 25 minutes on the grill. Plus the chicken is much juicier, so this is a biiiig difference. What disappointed me is the bad built-quality on the actual machined areas of the grill as a whole, and what a pain it was to assemble. When I talk about machined parts, I mean the holes for example where screws need to be screwed in, and the alignment of panels not lining up as one would entirely wish for it to do so, and so on. Especially considering you are paying above average (not prime) for this product. It's as if all screw holes are 'self-tapered' without any solid thread so you could either end up stripping a thread on the panel or the screw, or even the screw-head. Luckily I didn't, I know my way around - and it took time and patience. But to the 'average Joe', or even a house-wife, this would be a very challenging task and chances on error is high. Second disappointment is the space for the gas bottle, the height allocated within the bottom cabinet specifically. Some 9KG gas bottles don't fit!! So be careful. I now took the plunge and put down a deposit and got 9KG of gas from a supplier and the bottle is too tall to fit inside the cabinet, by about 50mm. Because I had already broken the seal on the gas bottle, I am now stuck with it outside the cabinet until it's used up. Really created an inconvenience. I would need to look at purchasing a 9KG bottle which is around 470mm in height - should fit. This just creates extra overhead on the refilling side of things in that it will now be my responsibility for the servicing thereof.
Rusts after 2 uses!
It looked nice, but even after following the instructions to oil the grates, it rusted after a few uses and the tiny holes clog up. I even tried usung oven cleaner labeled for grills, and no luck. Kind of flimsy as well. Now it just takes up space, as I dont want to cook on a rusty grate!
Love the grill but I need to contact Char-Broil
I bought this grill a couple years ago. I've owned a lot of gas grills including a few priced three times as much. I really like the Tru-Glue technology and the way it cooks. It's great for slow-cooking meats (such as pork and chicken) and it gets plenty hot for charring steaks. Vegetables and potatoes are breeze to cook as well. I'm having problems with the grates. Not only are foods sticking, but the grates warped from the heat. I'll contact Char-Broil and write an update about their customer service.
I purchased the Performance 2 Burner Infared (4-2015)to replace a larger conventional gas grill. Be sure to follow Charbroils instructions on preparing the grill to cook and on maintenance. Biggest obstacle for me was learning "How" to cook on this great little grill ( Infared vs Convention). The quality of the grilled meat, verses convection grills, is really impressive. Love not having "flare-ups", Burgers dropped thru the grates, and the ease of cleaning when your done. Just had a Fathers Day picnic of over 20 people and with Burgers, Brauts, and Hot Dogs, with the quickness of the cooking, and the moist finished product, everyone ws well pleased, especially me. Buy It You'll Like It.
