Light, easy to carry. Cheaply made.

Comments about Dirt Devil Extreme Cyclonic Quick Upright Vacuum:

Bought this 3 months ago and appreciated how light and easy to move around it is. Then within about 2 weeks ago the hose came out of of it's connector and the two small hooking clips holding the dust canister broke. I managed to spiral the hose back in but don't trust it to stay in now which negates the attachment hose. Put a velcro strap around the canister so at least the machine is still usable.

Broken belt - designed to fail?

    By beltless

    from Canada

Comments about Dirt Devil Extreme Cyclonic Quick Upright Vacuum:

This vacuum works good however the belt broke and when i took the bottom off to replace it I noticed the "design" of the brush looks like it helped lead to the belt failure. The brush has an outward curved surface (instead of flat) that could allow the belt to "slip off" to the side jamming it until the motor post eventually cuts through the belt. there was heavy bluing on the post which is caused by high heat from the friction of the stuck belt. I have to replace the belt now and can't properly use the vacuum until it arrives which can take over a week where I live. A spare belt included with the vacuum would have been nice.

Good for small jobs, great for the price

Comments about Dirt Devil Extreme Cyclonic Quick Upright Vacuum:

This vacuum is perfect for just what it says it is, small areas. It's pretty much perfect for my uses, I have carpet and a rug in my living space and this can easily and quickly clean it with no issues and it cleans very well, the suction isn't really low like some vacuums. Not to mention it is light enough for me to lift easily to place away for storage. I'm a 5'5" girl, so, that makes this vacuum my best friend. That was the big issue with a lot of other vacuums, they're just huge, heavy, and clunky. This one was a cinch to put together, and easy to use. I'm wondering if some of the people who had issues with it just didn't put it together properly, because so far I've had 0 issues.

    Ideal Pony

    By Manny

Comments about Dirt Devil Extreme Cyclonic Quick Upright Vacuum:

My needs are minimal as only two small rooms have rugs. I lost my original upright vacuum in the flood from hurricane Sandy, leaving me with only a shop vac unsuitable for these two carpeted rooms. My first experience with a "Dirt Devil" was with a hand held plug in that continues to give outstanding service, so when I saw the "Dirt Devil" lineup I looked them over with a partiality, comparing them to the other standard brands. I noticed two "Dirt Devil" models designed for pet owners (I am not) and I thought this was a pretty keen specialty design that smartly accommodates the ever-expanding pet household count in our nation......I continued shopping. Having nominal needs, I wasn't looking for vacuums much exceeding $50 or $60 dollars.....and playing with the display models of the various brands, I got annoyed with the gimmicky styling and the often puzzling dirt canister removal and emptying designs.....and there are SO many different ones. "Dirt Devil" vacuums seem to have straightforward, thoughtful designs in appearance and functionality including the swift removal, emptying and replacement of the dirt canister. So, on sale at PC Richard via their website and in stock at their local store, I found this scaled down upright. Sale priced and well reviewed on their website, I decided to buy it. Tonight was the unboxing and first use. It is a scaled down and lightweight design of what we've all come to know in an upright vac. The hose is exceptional quality and the handle extends for use and retracts for storage in a snap. The upright section of the vacuum swings all the way down, parallel with the floor for a great reach and clearance under low furnishings and the decreased width adds to the ability to get into tight spaces that a standard size vac would stumble at.  If you have huge square footage (I don't) of rug/floor to vacuum, you'd want a standard size machine, of course. I didn't get to examine this vac until the unboxing, but the fast dirt canister design exists on this machine as well. It's fast and clean unloading dirt. My girlfriend's vacuum is not too bad emptying the dirt box, a little awkward, but this "Dirt Devil" is fast. I like that. The "see through" plastic (I think they all have them) is the way to go. Again this vac is "bagless." There is a little green indicator in a window designed to alert the user when it's time to empty and clean the filter and dirt cup and check for clogs. I cannot comment on this feature as the machine has only 5 minutes of operation on it. It's not a big deal for me if it works well or not because I'm the type to clean the components often on my own. I like the plastic formula used in the construction. It's has a slight pliability that makes sense with the forces involved in the task of vacuuming floors. The bright red "Dirt Devil" color speaks of "utility" and because it's so visually conspicuous, the possibility of tripping over or knocking the unit down the steps should be reduced. The power cord is "ribbed" along the wire axis which gives a tougher service against cracking/chaffing/damage over time and the plug has that built in "push-clip" that stows it away neatly snapped onto the coil when wound around the two familiar keeper clips behind the unit. I prefer a power on/off switch high on the unit for a finger to use, based on using a vacuum I borrowed that had the switch low for the toe to use which had a stubborn action. My "Dirt Devil" power switch is also toe operated, but it's crisp and fast to find and use unlike my borrowed vac, so I think it'll be just fine only because the crisp operating switch design makes its location a non-issue. The machine's "upright" stowaway position just snaps up into place and the design requires the user to step on the "nozzle" (the component that travels the floor with the wheels and the roller brush) to "pop" the "upright" back from the stowaway position in order to use the vac with the upright freely pivoting. I hope the "catch" that locks the vac in its stowaway "upright" position doesn't wear out from repeated use. Standard size vacs have a release lever for this function. We'll see how it lasts...... The "floor nozzle" has a window to view the middle portion of the roller brush which could be useful to see a jam or a buildup of string that that can become problematic, though I think the critical point for this situation exists at the ends of the roller which are not visible in the window......but still, the window can be useful and adds to the value of the machine. The dirt canister has more dis-assembly for cleaning than I've yet needed to do, but the top of the canister itself offers a great lifting handle in addition to the retractable handle, so the unit is not only light and scaled down, it's hand lift friendly. The top of the handle has a "keeper" clip to help manage the power cord while using the unit, keeping it high off the floor at the machine. This should help avoid the dreaded "run-over-the-power-cord-with-the-roller-brush" move...... Tools for using the hose apart from the floor nozzle are the standard crevice tool and a brush nozzle. The brush fibers are quite tough but I'd like to see a double row of them instead of the single row. The brush fibers on the roller bar are also very tough. And suction? Robust and effective in my fast first use that got the office/bedroom wall to wall knocked out. I took the hose off the floor nozzle and put palm to it and trust me, it sucks with impressive power, lol! I registered the product online earlier and read over the owner's manual which is somewhat confusing because it covers TWO "Dirt Devil" models side by side in sequential illustrations. The distinction between two models in one owner's manual should be more plainly indicated. Also, two additional languages plus English under each illustration and on most every page make for a very cluttered read, but it's not a big deal....it's just that I prefer each different language kept to its own separate section across the booklet....no big deal. My review cannot possibly speak to long term service of this vacuum, but you may be sure I will take care of the unit and use it consistent with its purpose. The hand held "Dirt Devil" that I referred to earlier was the initial endorsement of this purchase because it's been of great longer term service to date, and that's what I expect of this "Dirt Devil" Extreme Cyclonic Quick Vac. objective review

        By Quadratic

Comments about Dirt Devil Extreme Cyclonic Quick Upright Vacuum:

I bought this lightweight vacuum to clean hardwood floors with dog hair mostly. Instead of the heavier bagged vacuum filling up with dog hair the Bagless seemed more Eco-freindly . I was hoping my 18" wide floor blade and other attachments would be compatible with this unit but the hose diameter is smaller and does not fit. Searching online I didn't see any accessories or even an adapter to use Using the unit as a push vacuum is good on low pile carpets, and excellent on throw rugs. But with the hardwood floor the exhaust air blows ahead of the unit pushing light hair into the air. Overall a good lightweight vacuum with good suction. Just not what I was hoping to accomplish.
