Unhappy Customer

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

After hearing from so many people about how much they love their Dyson and doing research, we purchased the DC39 Animal Canister vacuum with our wedding money in the beginning of 2012. We have 2 dogs that shed terribly, so I wanted a vacuum that could keep up with the mess they leave. After using the vacuum for a few years, I really am not thrilled with it at all! This vacuum does has its pros and cons, the cons greatly outnumber the pros, however! Pros: 1. Works great on hard surface floors. 2. Easy to operate. 3. Small enough to maneuver under furniture. 4. Love the retractable cord. Cons: 1. Difficult to go from hard surface floors to carpet/rugs (have to switch heads) 2. Static electricity causes fur/hair/dust to stick on the outside of the vacuum handle and I feel like I need a vacuum to get the fur of my vacuum. 3. The Tube and Cord are too short to do a flight of stairs without having to carry the canister and unplug 1/2 way through. 4. Seems to lose suction power quickly. 5. Canister is NOT easy to clean out - quite messy. 6. Expensive! 7. and my biggest complaint...I HAVE TO CLEAN OUT THE BRUSHES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CARPET VACUUM ATTACHMENT AFTER EVERY SINGLE USE. This means using a screwdriver and taking it apart and then using scissors to cut out all of the hair and fibers that have attached themselves. I do not want to clean my vacuum every time I use it! SERIOUSLY ANNOYING!!! If you have long hair or if you have lots of pet hair or if your house has lots of hard wood to carpet areas...this is not the vacuum for you!

It got the Body and the Brains

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

Many companies produce products that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but put little to no effort in coming up with smart ideas to maximize the functionality of their products. I had vacuum cleaners that are powerful, but noisy and heavy, I've had ones that are light-weight but are less powerful and fragile, or the ones that worked great in the beginning but it'd eventually stop working altogether. None of them provide access to the agitator Brushroll…. As it gets older, the brush roll gets wrapped around and covered by layers of tangled hair….. to a point where the brush roll no longer brushes, then the vacuum is practically useless. I've never seen or own a vacuum cleaner that has it all: Powerful, light-weight, easy to use, low maintenance, durable, easy storage.... and definitely not one that pleases my eye… UNTIL the day when I first lay eyes on Dyson products, the great looks and brilliance of their vacuums dazzled me….. things were never the same again. I've never seen a vacuum cleaner so powerful, and beautifully created with such level of thoughtfulness. No more bags, easy access to untangle hair on brush roll, washable filter, super quiet, light weight, and sexy. I ain't hiding this one in a closet like I did with all my other ones. The brilliant design solutions of Dyson products not only improved the quality of my life, it has also made house chores a lot less time-consuming, and more enjoyable.

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

this is a very light vacuum which makes it easier to move around the house and get up and down the stairs. the steering took awhile to get used to but now i can manuever it easily. the suction is fabulous and it cleans edges like no other vacuum i have used. i am very pleased with the power. i love the retractable cord. cons: i wish the cord was longer and its not as easy to empty as i thought it would be......seems that it should be emptied after each use and emptying is messy.

Just one little thing.

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

I've had the upright animal ball for about 4 years and love it. I found this on sale and thought it would be great for stairs/under furniture, so I bought it as a secondary vacuum. It's great in all aspects except it's incredibly messy to empty the canister. The upright dirt canister only requires one hand to hold, push the release button, and empty. This dirt canister requires both hands (one to hold it and one to push the release button) and even then, the dirt/dog hair doesn't fall out. Inevitable, I end up with dust all over my hand from holding the bottom open enough for everything to fall out. If there's a solution, I'm open to it!

Best vacuum I ever owned

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

After years of disappointing performance from numerous other make vacuum cleaners, I am amazed at the excellent performance of my Dyson. I was somewhat skeptical at first because of the odd shape and relatively small size and light weight, but it puts all my previous vacuum cleaners to shame. The Dyson Animal 39 cleans much better with excellent suction and is easy to maneuver. Even the accessory brushes and tools are well designed. The regular carpet tool really removes dust and dirt, and the small turbine tool is outstanding. In addition, I purchased the "flat-out" tool because we have lots of hardwood floors and hard to reach low places. It's great! One very useful feature I didn't realize when I bought the vacuum is that you can disassemble the canister with three quick clicks and wipe it out with a towel to keep it functioning perfectly. Those folks at Dyson know their engineering and make an excellent vacuum. It earns a big thumbs up from a guy with a critical eye for quality and performance.

Great suction-Poor design

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

This is our 2nd Dyson, our first was an upright and I wanted something more compact, light weight, and maneuverable. PROS: -Yes, this vacuum has great suction. -It transitions from our hardwood & tile to carpet seamlessly. -I am able to vacuum under the living room and bedroom WITHOUT having to move the furniture. So, BYE-BYE dust bunnies! -Love the retractable power cord CONS: -Hose is TOO short: -often have to lift the canister for dusting purposes. When dusting ceiling fans I have to put the canister up on a chair (even with handle fully extended). -the canister will "follow you around like a lost puppy" -can only do half the stairs and then have to move the canister upstairs/downstairs to finish the other half -Dont plan on vacuuming up anything larger than a dime because it will clog the carpet attachment. Not that I vacuum up my money but we do have a 3 year old that is very clumsy and we often have pop corn, chips, etc. on the floor and I have to remove any attachment to vacuum it up, usually end up using the broom and dustpan. -Attaching the handle to the canister IS A JOKE -only way to attach it is if the carpet head is attached to the wand. -The handle, when attached to the canister, is just precariously "standing" upright because the piece that protrudes from the floor head that goes into the opening on the canister is made of plastic. BE WARNED IT WILL CRACK ,therefore causing loss of suction. Haven't had ours a year and have had to replace the ENTIRE carpet head attachment because of this issue. -The actual handle on mine is cracked, coming apart at one of the seams, causing the suction release lever to occasionally come out. I have it taped together to prevent the suction release lever from falling out. -Canister has to be emptied frequently, while I don't mind this, because of its small size. -

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

This is easily the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had! I bought one of the original upright Dyson's and for awhile thought it was good, suction was good, but it was heavy to manuver and very noisy. I needed to upgrade and checked out all the reviews on the new ball-type Dyson vacuums and decided I'd return to a canister. The DC39 is light and manuverable, (really 1 finger can guide it); quiet enough to hear the phone ringing in another room, turns on a dime, and best of all--the wand lays flat so now I can sweep under beds, bureaus, whatever and wherever I want. The added bonus is I don't have to change levels for multi-floor areas. It goes from carpet to hard-wood floors like a dream and as with all Dyson's it has the best suction power available to pick up all the pet hair we have from a Sheltie and a cat. Great job Dyson designers!

My Dyson DC39

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

OMG..couldn't of made a better purchase, $$$$ie but worth it . I use this on my new 3/4 Red Oak flooring from Lumber Liquidators, some carpeting and stairs. Its great on carpeting that is secured to the floor..otherwise it will suck up throw rugs until you physically pull them off the nozzle. You can divert the air to stop the beater or roller but I don't always remember :) I used it in my 5th wheel while camping..again it worked great. Easy storage do to small size. I would buy again. Hope this helps.

Best Vacuum Ever

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

My Dyson arrived yesterday and I just vacuumed the whole house with this morning. I am in LOVE!!! The way it maneuvers around the furniture makes it so easy to clean. I love that I don’t have to move all the furniture to clean around it. Surprisingly, the cats are not even afraid of it. My male cat hissed every time I took out the vacuum cleaner in the past. This time he just watched me and only ran when it go close to him. My husband saw me vacuuming and said “You look happy. This vacuum is so light unlike my old upright. My old vacuum nealy pulled me down the stairs on numerous occassions.

Great vacuum but short hose and some useless tools

By wifier

Comments about Dyson Animal Canister Vacuum:

I love this vacuum. It has great suction and is highly maneuverable. Mine came with the old turbine tool and it works well but the new tangle-free one sounds much better because it works on uneven surfaces. The floor tool goes all the way to the edges so I don't have to use the crevice tool to get anything along the baseboards. It is easy to empty although a lot of stuff gets stuck, like hair, and you have to remove it manually as well as to tap it a lot to get stuff to fall out of the inside so I recommend emptying it outside or in a plastic bag where you have the draw-string pulled so it is tight around the outside of the container. This is my second Dyson. I had the DC07 before and although it still works great after many years of service, I have always preferred a canister. The DC07 had a great hose and tools but it was an effort to keep switching between the hose for dusting and hard surface areas (I preferred the floor tool for fine dust) and the upright for the carpets. Now I have almost no carpeting and Dyson has this powerful canister so I switched. My old Dyson has found new home with lots of new carpeting and several pets. My biggest complaint is the length of the hose that came with the canister. I am only about 5'2" and the hose isn't even as long as I can extend my arm up which means I sometimes lift the vacuum by the hose when dusting and then it topples over. I can't vacuum a 1/2 flight of stairs without having to carry it part of the time. I can't dust the back of any shelf much higher than 5 feet nor any shelf higher than 5-1/2 feet off the ground without having to carry the canister with me on a step-ladder; that leaves me with one free hand to both dust with the tool and move items that are on the shelves so I can dust. I hope Dyson comes out with a 2-1/2 to 3 foot extension hose for the canister. I called and the current extension hose is not compatible with the canister and rather short. I asked about buying a second canister hose but one cannot connect two together. Switching the brush on the turbine floor tool is not reliable. It worked consistently for months but then it started giving me trouble. When it does I can often put it on carpet and push the button to make the brush stop rotating but even that does not always work and sometimes I am in a room where there is no area rug where I can use this work-around. I don't know why the "stair tool" is included since it is only 3-1/2 inches wide and my stair treads are over 10 inches; I would have to go back and forth across the width of each step at least 3 times to cover the area so I use the floor tool instead. It might be useful when cleaning a car where you need tiny tools to get under the seat and into crevices when you want something bigger than the actual crevice tool. At least it is made out of recyclable plastic if you chose to discard it. Sadly I could not use the stair tool that came with my DC07 which was much wider (only need to go back and forth twice) but doesn't lock in like the new tools. The crevice tool is fine and comes with a detachable/retractable brush. But I don't know why they market it as "a Combination tool that converts to a brush tool for dusting" because the brush tool is only 1-1/2 inches wide, the brush is not soft, and it is at the end of the crevice tool which makes it awkward to dust a surface even at table-level if a person was crazy enough to attempt to use this tiny brush to dust their home. Life is too short so I recommend the Dyson dusting tool which covers a large area (over 7 inches long), has very soft bristles and is very practical. Having a brush at the end of the crevice tool when one needs a crevice tool can be useful but in no way is this a brush tool for dusting and Dyson should not market it as such.
