Comments about Dyson DC26 Multi Floor Canister Vacuum:
This vacuum was purchased a few years back and I never used it until my home purchase in December. It's a great product! I am the proud owner of three dysons and all perform beyond my expectations. It's lightweight and easy to use. Love the idea of not having to buy bags. Too messy. Dyson products are worth the purchase.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great vacuums for small spaces
I love this vacuum and it works well. it's perfect for my apartment where I don't have lot of storage spaces.
It is a great machine. ...
It is a great machine. Small and powerful. I just wish that it was much easier to store (because the arm is long and pipe is stiff) And it is very noisy.
Tiny little work horse
I've had my DC26 for about 6 years and I love it. I have 2200 square feet of hard wood floors and 4 small dogs that shed. Does the job brilliantly. I have had no problems besides a clamp that broke on the extender tube, which was promptly replaced by Dyson at no charge. I love the auto-rolling of the power cord back into the machine when I am finished vacuuming. My only wish was that the cord was a bit longer, maybe by 4 feet.
good and not so good
I bought this because I am handicapped and need a light weight vacuum, because I prefer bagless and a cannister for my hardwood and tile floors. It is lightweight, and made very well. Can't complain about the latter. Ease of use features are great. Only minus is that it doesn't pick up every well, and some stuff is left behind if I don't go over it several times. This is not because I don't change the filters regularly, either. Still, better than most. I like dusting with the tool for that.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Gives Dyson a bad name
We bought this machine for home use because it was lightweight thinking it would perform as the other dyson machine I own for my office. We were wrong! With the first use on wood floor and berber carpet the head kept stopping. We had to turn the machine off, pull out the gray stopper and restart vacuuming. It won't pick up the lightest dust on carpet, wood or tile and instead tosses the dust around. The attachments work well but really, it is silly to crawl on you hands and knees to vacuum the floor. I would NEVER recommend this to anyone. This machine reflects poorly on the company and I personally will not buy another machine from them.

Would not recommend to anyone
I thought I'd give dyson another chance, not a mistake I will make again! The dc26 looks good but that really is as far as it goes for me, the suction is useless unless you enjoy going over your floors 2 or 3 times, it's permenently getting clogged up and despite cleaning the filter " if your able to get at it" as required by the filter maintanence it makes no difference to the performance, considering the cost of this machine I would not recommend to anyone accept the dustbin a complete waste of money as far as I'm concerned very very disappointing considering all the technology and advertising.
I hated it.. until I figured it out.
I live in a studio apartment with hardwood throughout, but I do have a huge area rug, so I needed something that could do a good job on both surfaces. I had been sweeping the floor but I had not been able to clean the rug without a vac on hand, and since I was in the market I figured I could look for a multi-purpose. When I saw this vacuum the first thing that I liked was the canister design, I like being able to leave the body behind and use a small section to get into smaller spaces. I also liked that it was small (it seriously is tiny) so I started trying to find the best deals and I ended up not being willing to pay the price people wanted, and lowes had stopped selling them so I gave up for a few weeks. One day on craigslist I saw one up for sale and decided to jump on it. I got the thing for a 1/4 of the sticker price and took it home with me. I was so excited (like a new toy) I wanted to use it immediately when I got home. I used it on the rug and the first thing I noticed was that the vacuum did not stand the carpet fibers up.. (you know, that "Clean" pattern that lets you know where you've been.. yeah, none of that) and anytime the vac would leave the ground it would FLING dust and debris all over my legs and back onto the floor. I was very disappointed with my purchase and started to understand why lowes stopped selling it.. A month went by and I decided to use it again just to find solace in my purchase instead of having a dirty rug.. and the same thing happened. I decided to try and clean it out and see if that did anything. The filter was clean, no dust in the holder really, and the suction was very powerful with the brush end off.. so I didn't understand what was wrong. I put the brush end back on and it kept "pshhhhh" clicking back into off position every time I would pull the knob out.. Really irritating, so I stuck a quarter (the same quarter I use to undo the parts of the machine) in between the knob and brush to hold it in on-position. I ran it across the rug again and after vacuuming realllly slow I could still see plenty of dirt, glitter, and crumbs in the rug.. I was lost, I didn't know what to do. Sitting in the floor just disgusted with it.. I took the brush end off.. undid the roller in it and took the roller out to clean the hair off.. that is when I noticed the completely clogged (really small opening) section where the suction comes through the brush.. it was completely stopped up with fuzz, hair, paper, anything and everything. I spent about 15 minutes over the sink running water through it, picking at it with a hanger, running more water, and finally it was completely unclogged. I put it all back together and it definitely fixed the problem. Turns out I had bought it that way.. the guy that had it didn't know what was wrong with it and threw his hands up.. I fixed it and now I am happy. Design flaw on the small hole that would even allow a small piece of paper to jam it up.. possibly so.. but it is super easy to clean out if it is acting up. The vacuum clings to the floor and definitely stands the carpet up now. For the most part.. this vac is an acquired taste.. you really wouldn't want to use this in a big house, as you would have a hard time covering a lot of ground with this little head.. but it is perfect for me (and my rug) and as long as you understand how to correctly maintain it.. you'll like it. For sure. Suction is phenomenal and design is so cool.
I just got this vacuum today. I have the Dyson stick vac, which I love and don't love... (runs out of charge too quick and too heavy) but (great suction and cleaning). This vacuum does not have as good of suction as the stick it seems and it sounds like a dentist drill! :( My biggest disappointment tho is, the cord is WAY TOO SHORT! I think I need to return it and get the bigger yellow canister....?

Love this little vacuum!
I have been wanting a dyson for a very long time, I was finally able to get one last week. I am amazed at how great this little vacuum is. I thought that because it was smaller maybe I would loose some of the quality of the dyson, not true, its just as good. I have a 2yr old that leaves crumbs all over the place and my vacuum had broken almost 2 to 3 weeks earlier so my apartment was a mess. I brought my dyson home and was able to vacuum the entire apartment in one shot, I don't think my carpets looked so clean, and the air smelled fresh too.
