Comments about Dyson DC47 Animal Canister Vacuum:
My whole house is hard surface flooring. I have engineered hardwood and ceramic tile. I have three dogs. I vacuum every day. When I first got my vacuum it did not include the floor attachment. I didn't think I'd need it because they SAY it would work on all surfaces. I found out that is NOT true. The all purpose attachment that came with it sucked much too hard to the hardwood to do anything more than scrape it. So I had to rig up a way to use a dust mop and the hose. After three years of that laborious job, I complained to Dyson and they sent me the floor attachment. It works very well. Now I can vacuum like any other human being and it gets up the dog hair quite nicely. That attachment SHOULD be sold with the vacuum. OR don't advertise that it works well on all surfaces.

The Perfect Fit
It is with great pleasure I write this review. I have tried both the standing canisters and cordless vacuum. Both probably a good choice but not if you have furniture and if you have a 3 bedroom house to clean, that is actually occupied :) In other words, the cordless vacuum would only clean for about 8-10 minutes at the time and then needed to be re-charged for about a day.... Not a good fit for a busy mom on the go that has no time to clean in sequences ... :) The "upright standing canister" is a powerful machine, but if you have furniture, which most of the inhabited homes do - you are up to no good. The ball is so high you can go under almost anything in the house. It is probably the ideal fit if you are cleaning big open office spaces. It is a bit heavy as well. After much going back and forth between few stores we have found the canister option and even though by that time I was all very sceptical about Dyson we have purchased it and .... WOW. Lightweight, comfortable, extremely mobile. The low ball allows you to clean under anything and around everything. The canister is easy to clean and the machine is self is so light you can lift it and carry it around if you need to reach places. I vacuum and dust with it. I clean upholstery with it and the BEST - I can clean all the legos in the house without sucking any of them in with the flat service accessory .... Dyson has proven to me - it's worth spending the money! P.S. Side effects of using this machine - My husband has never been so interested in cleaning ANYTHING! :) I don't know is it the gadget appeal or the versatile use of this Dyson - but he loves to use it .... Yeyyy me !
Easy to put together.
Just by the pictures in the manual, the parts snapped together in a couple of minutes. The suction power is great and is small enough to get under furniture!
watch out for hair!
the very FIRST time I used this machine a hair apparently caught in the head and it stopped turning (suction continued) - every attempt was tried to fix it and all options to release it were unsuccessful and Dyson had to send me an entirely new head - I don't even have long hair! now I'm terrified to even use it because I'm afraid there will be another hair that gets stuck! Dyson people were wonderful and generous in their walking me through all the steps to release it which didn't work, but I'm still vacuum shy.... and by the way - how many nickames do you know that have 3 letters? maybe almost ALL OF THEM
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I have been a big Shark vacuum fan but got a DC47 for XMAS. First time in a long time not using an upright. This vacuum works great and easy to navagate. Love the retractable cord an ease of cleaning filters. Only one big problem is the very small canister to hold dirt needing to empty once or twice if Ivacuum the whole house. I get that it is a compact but still could have been designed to hold more dirt. So not perfect but very good vacuum.
This unit is the BEST light weight cleaner I've used! It picks up the finest dirt! The self storing telescoping wand is great. It reaches into my cathedral ceiling corners without an issue! I only wish the cord was a few feet longer and the unit itself more stable. It tends to tip over when I'm reaching up high or in a hurry. That may be due to the cord not being longer.
Why didn't I get it sooner
Love how compact and light but most of all how efficient this machine is. Love the features and how easy it is to maintain. The only thing that would improve this machine is making the parts dishwasher safe.
Really like my Dyson DC47. So easy to move around. Like the cord rewind. Picks up pet hair and sand'
The Dyson 47 really gets the job done. I have several cats and it really is vicious about getting the cat hairs out of the carpet. The only complaint is that the cord is too short. Otherwise, the DC47 Animal really lives up to it's name and is the best vacuum cleaner that I have ever had.
