Own V2220 and using for over 7 years
By Tina M

Comments about FoodSaver® Starter Chef Deluxe Kit - Black:
I own the V2220 for over 7 years and I use it at least once a day, everyday (when I am home, of course). I seal everything. I seal cold cuts, bread, half cut onions. I don't bake often so I like to keep my baking soda and powder fresh. I place a portion pack bag over the baking powder can and seal it in the can. Cheese lasts forever when it's sealed. To avoid freezer burn, I seal shrimp right in the bag, as well as frozen vegetables. I have bags of sealed fresh basil in my freezer. I seal cereal in their own bags for only a few seconds since the bag is thin. I do the same for chips, etc. When I seal something with a sharp bone (steak, pork chop) I place bunched up plastic wrap around the pointed edge of the bone before I seal it. I have had no problems with my machine. It works great except that recently I didn't disengage the latch, i jammed it. The latch moves down but doesn't catch, so now I need to push the latch down, push down on the lid, get the green light and then seal. This is no fault of the machine. I'm to blame. I may be getting a new similar model. I like the V2220's design, it's easy for me to use. I may get the 2244, it's a similar model. Five people I know have bought a Foodsaver because of the ease of use and observing how easy mine works. Some people say the 2244 won't seal. As a veteran Foodsaver owner, I have some pointers. 1) Make sure the bag is cut straight across. If it is jagged or has creases, the unit will not be able to suck out the air properly. The creases can be flattened when the bag is in the sealer, but the bag has to be cut straight across. 2) Make sure the bag is in far enough for it to seal. 3) If I have a heavy item to be sealed (meat, poultry, etc.) I place a trivet or 1 inch book under my item to be sealed. This allows the bag to be level with the unit. I found it helps with sealing.

Won't Last! Don't buy it!
from Hutsonville, IL, United States
I bought this because I cook a lot in bulk and freeze items for my husband's lunch, as well as freeze large quantities of venison and garden vegetables. It worked great for a few months but suddenly will only draw a VERY weak vacuum. I have tried everything that's in the manual to get it working but it won't Now I am stuck with several boxes of the bags. So disappointed in the quality of this machine!

Over all great product for beginners
We buy meat in bulk and break it down. This product has made that process so much easier. It helped us zip through 100 lbs of meat in no time! We had a minor issue with the chicken not sealing properly (due to the large size of the meat) but once we realized it we did a vacuum seal, then waited, and did another seal. Works wonderfully and a great start product for someone who isn't sure if they want to do this.
Food Saver machine

The last purchase I made was a Christmas Gift for a for a friend. My husband and I have had Food Saver products for years and love them. When our friend said he could sure use one we bought it for him. Thanks so much for having great products.
Only lasted a for about 5 uses
I only used it about 5 different times before it failed to vacuum and seal. It will vacuum air out but won't trigger the sealer. I tried replacing the seals but no luck.
I love the size of the machine.

Great value for a great machine. I have 3 other Food Savers and I wasn't able to keep them out for easy use due to the size. When I saw this one I not only bought one for myself but also bought one for my mom. We both give 5 stars. I am now ordering one for a wedding gift.
Well worth having....
I've has this food-saver quite awhile and it has served me fine. I only wanted to get an upgrade this time because I love saving money by not throwing away so much food. And I just felt like getting s new one for my hubby because he's the one who mostly wraps everything for me. So Santa decided to order a stand-up model for him this year. And a few extras too !! I expanded our ownership of food-saver products this year. I'm a happy gal. And he's a happy guy !!!
Easy to use
from Gastonia NC
This FoodSaver is great and so easy to use! fast and efficient with a good seal. no issues at all and the removable drip tray is handy for easy cleaning. Very convenient for bulk purchases that I want to package into smaller serving sized and look forward to using it for produce from the garden.
FS should reevaluate this particular machine
from Lufkin, TX
Yes, I've read the manual, even numerous reviews. Had to replace the seal gaskets. It still won't vacuum properly UNLESS I place my hand on the middle of the top and apply slight pressure. Heat seals can be "hit and miss" at times, so I have to really look at them. The jar sealer is tricky and I've had success with that(haven't used it much) but I can say that it takes practice. For making your initial heat seams, DO let the machine cool down in between cycles and make sure to have the printed side of the bag is facing UP. Frustrating, I know. To be honest, I would recommend a higher quality machine. I've owned mine for 3 yrs now.

Excellent product. I'm already saving money and time. Just ordered the jar sealer also to help with canning season.
