Don't know what we did before we had this product!
We purchased this FoodSaver several years ago and have purchased several more since for Christmas and Birthdays for our children. They love them! The kids are all hunters and have already forgotten what freezer paper was.
Product is hard to use and performs poorly
from Plainfield, IL
I have owned the Food Saver V3835 for 1 year now. I bought the vacuum sealer on a friends recommendation, since I only need a vacuum sealer to perform minor tasks every so often. I have used the vacuum sealer approximately 8 times. Form day one the product has performed poorly and was very had to get the bags to vacuum seal (I only used Food Saver bags). Of recent the product stopped vacuuming all the air out and then ceased to seal the bags at the end of the vacuuming process. I would not recommend this product due to its poor performance overall.
High Value; Does everything promised
This product is exactly as promised. Easy to use (fun, actually), compact, nice appearance, many uses, and quick clean up if needed. I showed it to a friend of mine and she was so impressed she ordered her own a week later.

Wastes 3/4" bag, every single use. Adds up cost!
from Skamania, WA
Too bad! Don't waste your money on a "kitchen model" as "Foodsaver Support" calls them. This series will cost you lots more in bags, than its cool look is worth. It will also cost you lots in waiting time. They tell me mine is designed this way. Instead, spend $20.00 or so more, for one of the "Professional Series" models. The "kitchen series" burns up the bag sealing surface, after two or three consecutive bag seals. Note the number of "consecutive seals" that the model you purchase is rated for. 25 is minimal! Good Luck!
excellent product - thrilled with purchase!

I looked at this product and couldn't make up my mind of I should invest in something like this. After a couple of years, I jumped in and have not regretted my decision. The machine is easy to use and I have not had any problems, other than learning about sealing bags with a liquid content. When the item is not absolutely dry it is going to suck the juice/water content up as the bag seals; the extra space ensures that the bag will still seal correctly. A tip is also to put your food item in the bag with tongs so that the bag does not get wet at the top, then use a paper towel to remove extra moisture before sealing. I now shop the weekly specials at the grocery store, buy in bulk, cook and freeze extra food for my family. At least two nights a week we have a quick nutritious meal by simply defrosting and reheating something previously frozen. A great time and money saver for a busy household.
Does not meet my expectations

Bought this machine yesterday and played with it all day today after a major harvest in my garden. I have a large garden and need to preserve lots of green veggies- collards, kale, etc. I bought this machine because it said it would seal MOIST packages. After par boiling, draining, then laying out on paper towels to remove the excess liquid from my veggies for storage, it took me well over 20 minutes to properly seal each bag of my produce. I had to keep repeating the process about 10 times for each bag! Because the air is being sucked from the bag, so to is any remaining liquids- which makes it nearly impossible for the heat sealer to make a uniform seal. I followed instructions on the web site for this problem, but they were useless and made no sense ie., "hit the seal bottom as soon as you see liquid coming up the bag" . Sure, that will work, but what about all the air still left in the bag?? They mention sealing stews in their bags which to me is a downright lie seeing how the bags work with MINIMAL amounts of water. The 'moist' button selector is a joke. I did try using the unit for dry goods and it worked great. I will be returning my unit at the store i purchased it from tomorrow....
Overall very happy with unit
when I smoke meats I will do about 40 lbs at a time. I will vacuum bag it with a littel juice in it put it in the freezer for a bit to harden up the liquid then seal it. When read to heat it back up I just cut a bit off the top and put it in the microwave on med power for 5 to 10 minutes. All taste good and fresh, never a freezer burn taste. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
