Worst $600 I've ever spent

Comments about Friedrich ZoneAire 13,500 BTU Portable Air Conditioner:
Piece of garbage...I'v had smaller much cheaper ACs that cooled rooms much better. Actually this piece of junk doesn't cool anything. Its loud....the window insert falls out constantly....I set it to 60 degrees, I'm lucky if I can get the room temp less than 85. Don't waste your money.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not as good as I was hoping for.

About Me Quality Oriented, Value Oriented
I bought this unit (the PH14B) to cool my living room. I did not want to completely block my window with a window unit ac. Due to the position of my window, I did not want a unit that would blow directly on me, the upwards facing blower is good for this. My room is about 20' x 15' with a few south facing windows that get a lot of light, but I close the shades during the day. Using the BTU figure-outer, this comes in well within the SqFt range indicated by Friedrich. Simply put, the unit just does not get the room cool enough. it's just kinda cool-ish and a little damp. My electric bill is noticeably higher using this unit, I didn't realize just how much of an impact a non-energy star appliance would have. I was impressed with the build quality, which is very high, but I'm just not happy with the performance. the temperature settings also don't really have anything to do with reality, so it's best to go by what it feels like in the room, rather than rely on what the settings say. I do like the fact that the unit does not rattle or make noise like a window unit does. However, the constant air movement and fan noise, becomes like a dither that does make it tough to hear when watching Movies or TV shows. But that's not the units fault, it's better than a rattling widow unit.If I could find a low-profile 110v 12-14,000 but window unit, I would re-consider. Apparently window units will cool the room more effectively than these portable units. so there's that.

We love it!!
from New York City
We definitely got more than what we bargained for with this product. We have a large studio with a wall separating into a small one bedroom and it cools the entire place; including down the hall to the bathroom. It is not noisy; no motor sounds but you can hear the air coming out. It's a soothing sound; nothing intrusive. Also, the fan is powerful enough to cool the apartment just fine but the cool setting is freezing!!! I also look forward to the winter since the heating in our apartment is not evenly distributed so this heater should make the bathroom area comfortable. It is sometimes worth is to pay a little more and have no worries. This has been our experience with this product!! Worth every penny!!
