Comments about Friedrich 8,000 Wall Sleeve Replacement Air Conditioner:

I just purchased this unit a little over a week ago. I have always had great luck with Friedrich air conditioners, so I found this one which fit the installation and BTU requirements for the master bedroom. Aside from the Friedrich name and the correct BTUs, the so-called "Uni-fit" was an important consideration in making my decision to make the purchase.
So, I get it home and the entire installation went very smoothly, although I did notice that the front panel had two issues:

1) The vents weren't straight and appeared slightly "wavy", as if they were misaligned. (thinking that they might have been designed that way, I looked up some pictures online of this unit and the vents appeared perfectly straight in the pictures I saw)

2) The front grille panel rattles a bit as the retaining tabs in two spots were broken (I was very gentle in installing it, so it seems like they may have been broken during shipping, although the unit appeared to be well packed in its box)

I looked beyond those issues, for the time being, as the air conditioning has been sorely needed. The other issue is another "fit and finish" type of issue. The trim piece. It is a two-piece rectangular trim ring with slightly rounded corners. The problem is that it doesn't fit properly. The two pieces are identical and symmetrical. Which sounds great until you realize that the upper and lower corners of the a/c unit are NOT identical.
Also, the cutout in the trim piece to accommodate the power cord, is also in a completely different spot than the actual power cord. This also renders the trim piece unusable.
As a lifelong Friedrich consumer, I am very disappointed as it lacks the perfection and quality of the other Friedrich units I have and have had. It cools nicely. It's not as quiet as the monster "Quiet Master" Friedrich unit I have. If the trim ring fit properly, it would look pretty decent, too. So if the trim ring isn't a concern (this was a replacement unit for an existing through-the-wall sleeve)and possible issues with "fit and finish" aren't important, you should be okay, but I would recommend that you inspect it before you leave the store or accept delivery.
