Not For Beginners - But a good unit
from Medford, NY
About Me Quality Oriented
Comments about Frigidaire 8,000 BTU Slider/Casement A/C:
So I have to say one thing: If your Casement Window is MORE than 16" wide... be very careful. The unit's brackets here are designed to go UP not sideways. Also the installation instructions contained a few typos and were, at best, difficult to understand (Also it begins with "Sliding Window" Installation without stating that "Casement Installation" is the next section over). This is the only reason for the missing star: The installation instructions were VERY Poor. I've installed plenty of AC units and had lots of tools at my dispoal (as well as plywood and Corning insulation to shore up the gap in my window). Again the gap was my fault for not reading the manual online and double measuring the casement. So word to the wise:MEASURE TWICE: Check the manual online provided by P.C. Richards! They have all the dimentions mentioned.Lastly this unit comes with 3 kinds of insulation foam, 3 lengths of screws and multiple mounting brackets. They did an EXCELLENT job trying to ensure compatability with multiple Casement/Sliding windows. Also: Have a 6" slice of 3/4" plywood or similar wood around to place between the support bracket and the siding of your house. Again I had plenty of tools but you may not, and not all tools are mentioned in the instructions.Despite my issues this is currently keeping a very large set of 2 1/2 rooms comfortably cool in a home that is not very well insultated. I purchased the 12k BTU version of this unit but that was because I had a very large area to cool. As I said: Prepare for a good couple hours for installation, don't assume that you just take out your Casement and put in the AC unit. There's far more to it than that and it doesn't hurt to have a helping hand (especially if you're working on a 2nd story window) - I luckily was working on a ground floor window.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
