appearance, easy to clean, modern look, price was a little high.
Sleek styling. Good performance
from Hoston, TX
I bought this cooktop when I remodeled my kitchen. It replaces an old style coil-type electric. It performs well but it is a real pain to keep clean. Whenever you fry something the spattering is all over the cooktop. You have to remove all knobs and downdraft grille to clean under and around them every single time you cook. The exhaust fan extends down so much under it that I had to butcher and rig with duct tape the ducting to fit my existing set up (also a downdraft) Your pots and pans need to have a perfectly flat bottom, otherwise they rattle noisily and rock so much when heating up the that the contents spill over.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love the cooktop and I like how the two burners can heat up simultaneously for griddle cooking. This is my second cooktop and I will have this complaint about any ceramic cooktop I purchase from no on; the issue I have is the appearance after one cooking use. I wish they would come out with cookware that doesn't leave behind scratches or a cleaner that ACTUALLY removes them. There is no cleaner that works to my standards - I've tried them all. But I will always by a ceramic cooktop and it will probably be a GE from now on. Thank you!
down draft cook top

Replaced older unit much improved. Heating system much faster then old design. Exhaust fan higher capacity
from Seattle, WA, United States
We have had this cooktop for a few months as it replaced an electric cooktop with coils. This cooktop was easy to install and looks very nice. The elements heat up very fast and boil water faster than gas cooktops we have seen. We also like that the glass top only heats up in the area of the cooking elements and does not heat up a larger area. The exhaust fan housing is very large and difficult to hook up an exhaust vent. Expect that the exhaust system will take up more room in your bottom cabinet than older models. It is taking a while to find the correct dial settings to get the heat you want. Also, it seem a little odd that the dials start out at high when you first turn them on. The fan does this as well. The fan motor is very strong and we noticed with it on high, it is hard to add salt and pepper as the fan sucks it away. Although the glass surface looks very nice, it scratches easily and is hard to keep clean.

Bought this cooktop a couple of months ago as part of a kitchen upgrade. Cooking functions/electronics are fine. But, the shiny, black glass surface shows every little drip, blemish, and mark, and I'm constantly having to clean it with the GE recommended product just to keep it looking decent. Redesign the surface material and you'll have a winner.

I feel fortunate to be the owner of my new appliance.

We moved into a home in the country and are updating the fixtures and appliances and so on, and we just installed our new cook top. Just wanted to tell you that I used to think that sliced bread was the neatest thing ever now I have to let you and anyone else know that this cook top is even better than THAT!!! It was the best decision we made so far in our DIY remodel.

This cooktop is extremely sensitive to cracking. I dropped a plastic cup on it and it shatterred at the edge and caused a huge crack. And the glass top (I have black) is extremely difficult to keep clean -- even with the specific cook top cleaners recommended. Plus the bottom right burner which is the larger one and used the most, seems to be very hot -- even on the lower/simmer settings.
