Solid overall microwave with a few shortcomings
from Bellevue, WA, United States
Comments about GE 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - White on White:
I've been using this microwave for about a month now. Purchased it for a kitchen remodel we did over the summer. Overall the cooking performance of this microwave is top notch. Cooks fast and is high powered. The defrost cycle works well too. Great for thawing chicken, breads, etc. No complaints on the cooking performance at all. The functions could use a little work though. It's a little awkward to set a cook time, and takes a few more clicks than I feel is necessary. Also, my biggest complain is the timer is very quiet when it goes off. Should be much louder. The fan does a good job of sucking air, but it's LOUD. Even on medium setting it's loud. The low setting is much quieter, but doesn't move much air. So basically you can move lots of air and have it loud or move a little air and have it quiet. Also, would like to see the vent on a timer, so I could set it on low and then not worry about having to turn it off. It's actually so quiet I forget it's on sometimes and will realize a hour or so later than I forgot to turn it off. The underneath light is nice and does a good job of lighting up the top of our oven. Nice when you don't have under cabinet lighting. Overall happy with this purchase and would recommend it.

Too soon to tell
from Zionsville, IN, United States
This was a replacement for an over-the-stove model (that was matched by GE to our GE range) that failed, we think because heat from the burners adversely affected the touch screen (even though we always has the vent on). This one seems to be better engineered, however we are experiencing fogging of the door when using the front left burner (in spite of having the vent on). So time will tell.

Good size and power

Works fine and is easy to control and cook in. The after the fact cook/timer feature is helpful too.

Great Microwave & 2nd Oven!!
from Grandville, MI, United States
I've been using this appliance for almost 5 months now and I'm still learning about and appreciating all of its features!
from West Salem, WI, United States
I totally remodeled new home including all new appliances. I fell in love with the slate look therefore my options were very limited. I still love the slate but the all the GE appliances are merely adequate. The microwave is under-powered and difficult to clean. I stainless steel is low grade and show all rubbing lines. Also the touch buttons require force rather than a mere touch. The refrigerator and stovetop oven also have issues.
