Comments about GE 14.6 Cu. Ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator - Black:
It works just fine, my issue with it is not enough space. Three shelves just isn't enough. I wish we had another drawer for meats and the option to have a split level. It's hard to store food without having to shuffle everything around to get the half gallon of milk out that got pushed to the back after putting last nights leftovers in. (And we keep our fridge clean and never have a lot of food in there anyway!)
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Excellent basic refrigerator, quiet, energy saver, clear plastic drawers enable you to see food, large upper shelf for tall items, economical use of space, but roomy enough for everything, easy to clean. I'm glad to have it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Poor successor to 1980 GE TB12 13.6 cu-ft
from St Peter, MN, United States
This unit was chosen to replace our still-working 1980 GE Model TB12SAB13.6 cu-ft cycle defrost refrigerator freezer. There are many poor design and layout choices in this new model. It's very easy to pinch one's thumb between the handles when closing the lower door. I had to create a filler guard from rigid sytrofoam to prevent that. The refrigerator shelves are short and set back in comparison to our old unit. The door shelves are so deep that bottles easily tip forward unless you have the shelves full. The two short hydrator drawers offer far less useful space than the single large drawer. Reaching everything requires more stooping and bending over than our old unit whose shelves started farther off the floor because of the mechanism below. Also, the spacing between the shelf wires is so wide that bottles, pop cans and other things easily tip over when moved. If we could have replaced the leaky door gaskets on our old unit, we would have kept it for another 36 years. We lost a lot of convenience and ease of daily use when we traded for a frost-free unit with such poor ergonomics. If we had been able to see it at any local dealer, we would not have bought it. Online description, specifications and photos didn't tell us what we needed to know. Our happiness with our 1980 GE unit and the general similarity to the new one misled us.
Most Reliable High Efficiency Refrigerator Today

My former fridge was a GE. And it lasted 37 years! So, when Consumer Reports ranked this model in it's Top 3 out of 130+ refrigerators, I knew it was the one for me.
