This unit can be mounted in a window for seasonal use or mounted through-the-wall for permanent year round usage.

Not as good as my old GE air conditioner
from New York, NY, United States
Comments about GE 18,000 BTU Window/Wall Slide-Out Air Conditioner:
I purchased a GE 18000 btu I 2009. It was really good until it stopped cooling this summer so I replaced it with the current GE 18000 btu AC and I am very disappointed. The new one 1. Cools less space. It doesn't cool the whole space that the old one did. It takes a very long time for it to cool most of the space. The fan is much weaker. The only good part of the fan being weaker is that there is slightly less noise. However there still is noise and I really would prefer the noise to not having the AC perform like it should. I bought it to cool the room! noise or not. 2. The engry saver cycle is useless. It doesn't cool at all. When the ?desired temp is reached the whole unit shuts down and the room becomes unbearably hot. I am not sure when it decides to turn on as the room gets so hot that I just change the mode to cool. The old unit the re was a +/- 2 degrees when it shut off/turned on and the fan went on at some point. 3. The cool cycle works like the old energy saver cycle used to work. It is fairly good, but now I am missing a cool cycle where I could override the temp setting and keep the AC on regardless of the temperature. I need this cycle because my apartment is very hot in the winter (with the heat off) so even if the outside temp is 50-60 degrees I need to run the AC. 4. There is no independent way to open the vent to outside air. I am not sure what happens when the fan cycle is selected. Does the vent open? 5. The unit always starts in energy saver mode instead of the setting that I last used. I had the repairman in and he said that all of the above was the way that the unit is supposed to function. If you are looking for a unit that has a real energy saver and cool setting that can be adjusted to your needs (I usually keep mine at 72 during the hot summer days) then this is not the unit for you. On the plus side, once in the cool cycle and it reaches the desired temperature it works fine. It takes about 1 hour to cool the space and then it's ok. I would just like more real options (like I had before).

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Installation was easy enough but a screw holding the control panel onto the grill was over tightened at the factory snapping it's grip and making the control panel a bit tenuous. We had a repair man over and while he convinced me that it wasn't a big dealvthe thing he did say that got me rattled was that generally it's just a matter of luck whether we get 5 years of service from the unit..we decided on this AC and for us it was a considerable investment and this proclamation from him didn't sit well with me especially when we are still paying it off..

After looking all over for a good window AC, this caught my eye at a reasonable price. The A/C is currently working wonderfully and cooled down my entire first floor (dinning room, living room and kitchen) on a hot humid day from 85 degrees to 70 within 30-45 min. It was a little difficult setting up the unit and took a while but I am leaving the unit there permanently, so not that bad. Overall, very good product and looks very sleek.
Cooled house down fast and maintained it well

Installed this unit through the wall where a prvious unit of simialr size was previously installed. Cooled the house from 85 degrees to 72 degrees in a matter of a couple of hours. Really did a great job of dehumidfying the house as well over that same time period. Did hear a pinging sound, but have read that it is picking up condensed water from the bottom pan for more effiency.
