Comments about GE 24" Built-In Dishwasher - Black:
I purchased this dishwasher about a month ago, I'm not happy. I use Cascade Complete as recommend but leaves soap in dispenser and on inside of door and silverware. Have tried all solutions in manual plus new hot water heater.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We bought this for the cost. We were tired of spending large amounts of money for appliances with a life expectancy of 5-7 years. This is definitely a "no frills' dishwasher. The best feature is the noise level. When we first started using it, we could be in the same room and not even know it was running. We've had it about 4 months now and the volume, at times throughout a wash cycle, has increased but still is much quieter than my older, more expensive dishwasher. The quietness may be from increased insulation because the inside does not hold as many dishes as my previous model. With lots of experience, now, at loading and unloading this one, I have managed to find a style that gets as much in as possible. For large meals with lots of pots and pans, I have to run two loads. I do rinse all my dishes before loading; I've found that flat food, such as noodles or minced onions, get stuck to the backs of plates or the sides of knives. I've also eliminated one of the baskets for utensils. The bottom basket interfered with the opening of the soap dispenser and I had a load of dishes go through the entire wash and rinse cycle with no soap. After that, I use only the top basket. Plastic items do not dry, therefore I remove them from the top rack AFTER removing dishes from the lower rack...to avoid spilling water on the dry glass plates and bowls. I just keep a drying rack on my kitchen counter and allow the plastic items to air dry for a couple of hours. The cycle times seem long: 165 minutes for regular cycle, 133 for light cycle; heavy with sanitize and steam can be as high as 220 minutes. The hidden buttons and time can be a little inconvenient, but an angled look at the top of the door can reveal "time remaining", plus opening and closing door to see time is simple with just a press of the "start" button before closing to restart the cycle where it stopped. All in all, if given the opportunity again, I would make the same purchase. The value is worth the little inconveniences. The purchaser just needs to know that a period of personal adjustment should to be expected with this product.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Even the short wash cycle takes nearly hours. The lower silverware rack and detergent dispenser are poorly designed. Any flatware placed in the center of the rack can prevent the water from dissolving the detergent causing a poor result and rewashing. Loading flexibility of the bottom rack is poor.
So Quite and sparkly Clean!
from Papillion, NE
I love this dishwasher! It is the first time I have ever bought an appliance and I am completely satisfied. It is so quiet, I have never heard a dishwasher be this quite before, it is truly amazing! Plus once the wash was done my dishes were actually dry and were sparkling. No ring marks, or food stuck on the plates either! Feeling Happy
I had a GE prior to this and I liked it, but after 15 years, it was worn out. I bought another GE. It had some nice features , was quiet and I expected it to clean as well as the other one. Didn't happen. Now I am stuck and unhappy.
I want my 17-year-old GE dishwasher back!

Extremely quite; good capacity. However, no matter what settings I use, the dishes always come out soaking wet and I have to hand-dry everything. Silverware doesn't always come out clean. The soap dispenser occasionally fails to open. Newer technology should IMPROVE performance.
sounds like it will be quiet, with low 48 db level
VERY QUIET.......but still leaves some dishes dirty
from Southern California
I was quite excited to turn on the unit and hear how amazingly quiet it is. We loaded the dishwasher and used the soap that came with the machine. Unfortunately, there was still some food particles on some of the dishes. It wasn't overloaded or overlapped, but I found that you can't put dirty dishes with food on them around the outer edges. Also, you HAVE to use the heated dry, a feature we never used to use other machines. When you don't use the dry, the dishes are amazingly soaking, not just wet. Only thing it doesn't have that I wish it did was a rinse cycle. There is no way to rinse the tub or some dishes without running a whole cycle, or starting a cycle and canceling it after a while.
No noise, easy handling

This dishwasher has the possibility to wash only the top or the bottom if needed. Great feature and very useful. The machine is very quiet, but takes quite some time due to that. However the dishes come out great. Only downside feature, the upper cleaning swirl sometimes pops out and needs to be readjusted.
So far So Great!

This dishwasher does a great job cleaning the dishes. Plenty of room for your large pots and tall glasses plus an extra tray for the silverware on top rack. The sorters on the silverware trays are a little clumbsy but really this doesn't take away from the overall performance.
