Terrible Washing Machine
from Boynton Beach, FL, United States
Comments about GE 4.0 Cu. Ft. Top Loading Washer - White:
I would rate this machine 0 stars if I could. The machine is extrememy noisy. In the four months I have had it, it has flooded my laundry room and surrounding area twice. After the first "flood" (machine a week old), it needed a part replaced. How does a new machine need a new part? Shouldn't all parts be new? DO NOT buy this washing machine; terrible product!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Purchase a new Town House & it came with appliances already, they are not the most expensive ones but they are good.

Great for everyday items

The washer came with our new home. We have our own washer and dryer purchased 5 years ago, I like those better for our household.Though I love the soak feature of the washer, I just feel as if it does not wash as efficiently as our front load washer.

Settings a little tricky and I prefer the old school that fills water above the clothes line to ensure my clothes are getting clean BUT it hasn't given me any problems overall.
Have to REWASH to get clean
from New Jersey, United States
This washer came with my newly built townhome, and is HE quality as the entire home was built with energy efficiency standard, and has some good features. However, I have to re-wash my clothes for them to get clean...hence not very energy efficient. After 2-3 months I started noticing what looks like lent left on clothes for every load. The service man said many people have complained about it and there was nothing they could fix as I have the latest agitator/motor. I tried washing smaller loads had the same issue and the water doesn't fill all the way, and looks like the clothes really don't move during the wash cycle. If can afford it look for a better machine or different brand. Some recommendations that got me through until my replacement: dilute liquid fabric softerner with water if going to use it always use the 2nd extended rinse and spin don't bother with the gentle cycle, it does nothing
Very nice quality

HE washer is great. Works as well or better than any washer I've ever owned. I was warned to use HE soap in advance. Very happy with this purchase.

waste of time and space

Doesn't get clothes clean. Still had dirt on my pant leg. I have to add buckets of water to every wash just so the clothes get wet. Came with the apartment.

We bought this washer through our builder and so far, so good. Despite the other reviews, we have not noticed any of the problems mentioned.
Terrible! Sounds aweful! Makes clothes look worse
from Palm City, FL, United States
We have 6 people in our family. I do a lot of laundry with 4 kids. The washer sounds like a loud baby crying, "Wahhhh! Wahhhh! Wahhhh!" when it is washing. I can hear it upstairs even though the washer is downstairs on the other side of the house! I don't care to hear that sound any more since my kids aren't little. I have used the new washer for 1 week and hate it! Light colored clothes have yellow stains on them after the wash cycle, even if they didn't look dirty before. My son's blue comforter had white circles "tye-dyed" into it from being rubbed on the short center post. The washer instructions say it is "normal to not have all the clothes covered with water"; but, the water never fills above the short center post even on large loads. I have tried the recommended 2nd rinse, but that doesn't get even simple dirt marks and simple stains out. I tried the "soak" cycle on my son's blanket and half of it was still dry (above the center post) when it was supposed to soak. I'm sorry, but GE made a lousy machine this time! Clothes can't wash in the air. Detergent is activated by water, not air. If there isn't enough water in the cycle, the soap and pre-treatment products can't be activated and release the stain from the clothes. I had to wash my husband's green oxford shirt 4 times to get out a simple stain. The pre-treatment spray and wash was still noticeable after each wash. It hadn't even rinsed out! I was using the 2nd rinse option each time too! The only times clothes come clean is when I wash a very small load. All clothes must stay below the center post so they are completely covered with water during the entire wash cycle. This is a HUGE pain for me since we have a large family and do lots of laundry. That is the only way I can avoid the stains that happen to white clothes. There just isn't enough water used to get the detergents rinsed out of the clothing. Even high efficiency laundry soaps in their proper amounts are leaving extra stains on the clothes. A high efficiency washing machine that makes you do 3-4 washes to do what takes others 1 wash is NOT energy efficient! It is a waste of water nod electricity and most of all my time. DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE! It came with the brand new house. Too bad I didn't get to choose something different since we are renting! A simple fix for this machine would be for GE to allow it to fix the low water level problem. If it could fill with even twice as much water, I bet the cleaning problems would disappear. It may also eliminate the horrible sound the washer makes too. My husband suggested I try pouring several more gallons of water into the machine to raise the water level. I'm so frustrated with the washer's cleaning ability that I just might try it.
