OK -- first washer had to be replaced though
Comments about GE 5.0 Cu. Ft. Top Loading Washer - Metallic Carbon:
This is our 2nd GE washer of this model. The first one had to be replaced because of defective parts. So far, so good for the 2nd one.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Could not be happier

We switched from a front loader to this - unbelievable the difference. The clothes come out so much cleaner and much less damp which reduces drying time. The automatic detergent dispensig is great - keeps the kids from putting half a bottle in with the wash...

I just recently purchased this washer along with the dryer. It was delivered on May 3rd and we love it. I have used the sanitize cycle twice and the clothes smell so fresh and they are really soft. We love the different features and the appearance. Also, it is really quiet.

Worst Washer I ever had! Do not buy!!!
from West Chester, OH
I used to have an old inexpensive Whirlpool machine with an agitator, and I never had problems with it. Bought this washer in the summer of 2013 when we moved into our new house, thinking I made a big upgrade...Since then, every time I do laundry I wish I had taken my good old washer in my new house! This washer looks great but that’s the only good thing I can say about it. All the fancy features together cannot clean the way my old washer did. It never uses enough water, I always use the extra rinse function and even then I still have detergent and fabric softener residuals on our clothes! Seems like it just makes the clothes wet and mixes them with the detergent and fabric softener that are then left on the clothes together with the dirt on them! The very same clothes that my old washer cleaned so nicely! Furthermore, it has damaged our sheets and numerous clothes! I wish I could attach a picture to demonstrate! Also, the smart dispenser does not work properly and several times the washer got filled with foam that leaked outside of the washer in piles of foam!!! And more: It does not matter how much effort you put to arrange clothes inside â€" very often it goes out of balance, makes a lot of noise and jumps about a foot from its original place! I can continue to complain…but: DO NOT BUY! DO NOT BUY! DO NOT BUY! I am at a point to throw this piece of junk away and buy a new washer. The only reason I still have not done it is because of all the money I spent on it.
Fancy Gadgetry = More stuff to break

In the first year of ownership lid lock mechanism failed, suspension rods needed to be replaced because they were faulty, machine software failed. Next time I'd buy a basic top loading washer that gets the job done without any bells or whistles. And not a GE.

Just bought this GE washing machine after extensive reviews of like-type machines from other manufactures. So far, it definitely exceeds our expectations.
