Comments about GE 5,050 BTU Window Air Conditioner:
Very loud. No good for a bedroom. Bought it from PC Richard and am sorry to have done that. Going to have to replace it.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Got this GE after my Fridgidare unit died. Figured since it was priced slightly higher than the Fridgy I was at least upgrading. If ever so slightly. Put the unit in, with no problems for the first hour then it started. This ding/ping/fingfang sound every couple of seconds. The instruction manual stated thay the unit often makes this noise when it has a problem draining and to make sure your air conditioner is tilted. If the air conditioner were tilted any more, "Nearer My God To Thee" would start playing from it. When I tilted it even more (while in my hands) water POURED out. But the only way it was able to drain was to practically put it upside down. I started the unit again and voila! No ping/ding/water torture sound. Until the unit fills back up again. Then here we go with the water sound. I couldnt take it anymore and promptly returned. I was told that "all air conditioners are like that now and they all make that sound now" .....if they "all make that sound" then give me a block of ice and a fan. But alas, they don't because I the Fridgidare (i dont work for them, I swear!) Unit I replaced it with (model number FFRE0633S1) runs perfectly. I think I probably got a defective unit because I just dont believe an air conditioner is supposed to make that kind of noise but I wouldnt take the chance with them again
Great compact unit

Great little unit, cools a 12x12 bedroom nicely. Very compact, the outside edge of the unit is almost flush with my siding when installed in the window.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I own a bed and breakfast and GE is the only window air conditioner I will use. In 14 years I have found all the competition to be cheaply made and I'm lucky to get 2 years out of them but GE's rock! I have used this model for several years and despite what some other reviewers said, this unit is quiet, compact and powerful.

Glad I bough this AC, it maybe small but it cools down a larger area than it is rated for.

GE - AHV05LR - I returned the a/c
from New York, NY, United States
The a/c worked about one week then all the Freon leaked out and the a/c only produced warm air
Size don't matter
This AC is small but it kicks out cool air like one of those bigger ac's.
A cooling workhorse!

Our central air conditioner unit needed to be replaced, but not until the floor was ripped out and replaced. So...we needed alternate means of keeping the house cool. We bought just two of these little units and they basically kept the entire house cool! The utility bill was even comparable to using the central A/C.
