I truly have no cons for this unit after nearly a year of use. It is my first experience with this type washer/dryer.

Good choice for a tight space.
from Ventura County, CA
I've had this unit for a year now. I did allot of on-line research before buying the GE product. My main reason for selecting this model was for the washer capacity. It has the largest tub size (2.2cu ft.) of all the 24 inch wide models I looked at. My condo was built in the 1970s. We have a very small laundry room. A 27 inch machine would never fit. The "Extra Large Capacity" washer sure makes a difference. I'm able to wash single size comforters with no problem. I'm not sure if it could handle anything much larger. The washer works well. The rinse/spin cycle does make quite a bit of noise (I've never owned a top-loader that didn't). I do my washing mid-day to evening. That way, I don't disturb the neighbors downstairs in the morning or late at night. Other reviewers have commented about overly rough agitation. It's true the "cotton" setting is quite harsh. I'd only use it for jeans or sweats. I use the permanent press setting for just about everything. It does a fine job without damaging the laundry. The gas dryer works well. It's cheaper to run than the electric unit it replaced. Again, the "cotton" setting is a little overkill. That setting gets blistering HOT! I use the permanent press setting on the dryer as well. It works just fine. The load dries in an acceptable amount of time with little shrinkage. I like the hard plastic drum. It's impervious to damage from loose change or car keys. I've heard others complain about buttons getting pulled off. I haven't had that problem. My only gripe is with the lint trap. The lint seems to fall out all over the place when I go to clean it out. I consider that a minor drawback. All things considered, I'd call this a good machine. It fits in a tight space and does the job.
2 Strikes on this unit.
from Los Angeles, CA, United States
The 1st unit was with the house I bought (Oct 2011) and started having problems about 8 months into it. Worked with the warranty department and they could not get the part to repair it. They ended up replacing the unit completely because of the unavailability of the part. 2nd unit just went bad, started leaking water from the bottom of the washer, damaged wood floors. Hopefully unit can be fixed or replaced again with something more reliable.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought this 4 months ago and love it. My original compact GE washer dryer was still working after 20 years
Looks Larger than others

Purchased for a rental unit to fit in a small spot. Washer seemed larger than other makers of the same design.
