Terrible machine â€" Loud, poor rinse, and leaks!
from Chicago, IL, United States
Comments about GE Piggyback Gas Washer/Dryer Combo - White:
I bought the GE Unitized Spacemaker Model GTUN275GMWW six months ago to replace an older GE unitized model. I was pleased with the previous model and used it for many years, so I didn’t hesitate to buy the latest GE model when it broke. Unfortunately, the new model is very different from my old model. The new machine has been a clunker since the day it was installed! It’s extremely loud, it does not rinse properly, and now it’s leaking water and black soot from the bottom on the machine. I’ve been washing clothes for almost 30 years, and as a renter in various apartments for a while, I’ve used many different washing machines. This is the only one I have any complaints about. It is truly the worst home investment I’ve ever made. I contacted GE Appliance Service and scheduled a service appointment. When the repair technician removed the front of the machine, he immediately saw that the machine is leaking and is rusted out. To fix it, he needs to fully disassemble and rebuild the washer, including the transmission, tub seal, bearings, tub assembly, tub ring, inner and outer basket, and probably other parts. This is a new machine, only 6 months old! Given my experience, I do not recommend this machine. Following is a more detailed description of the problems: 1) The washer leaks â€" Water and black residue (looks similar to black dirt when it dries on the floor) are leaking from the bottom of the washer on the left-hand side. 2) The washer is extremely noisy â€" My neighbors can hear it spinning from outside of my condo unit, even when they are a full flight downstairs. It sounds like a train roaring down the tracks! The noise interferes with phone calls and TV, and it definitely doesn't make me popular with my neighbors! 3) The washer does rinse properly â€" With just two regularly-sized bath towels in the washer, the washer will not rinse properly. Even after running it through an extra 2 - 3 full wash/rinse cycles without soap (which takes a lot of time and wastes energy!) there are a lot of suds left in the water and there are suds on the sides of the tub after it spins. To wash towels, I have to skim out the soapy water by hand. I currently use high-efficiency (HE) laundry detergent, but the problem occurs with both HE and traditional laundry detergents. As for the question of whether I'm using too much soap, I’ve reduced the amount of soap and it didn't resolve the problem. Also, I've been washing clothes for almost 30 years, and I've never had this problem with another washer, so I don’t believe the problem is related to too much soap; the problem is with the machine and the way it rinses.

Everything I expected it to be...wonderful

We purchased this for an upstairs laundry area. It's quiet, handles large loads, and does a good cleaning job.

Great space saver, but not a reliable unit
from Washington, D.C., DC, United States
We bought this unit after having a similar one in a prior apartment. Overall it's good for a small space. But the dryer broke after less than 3 years of use so I am disappointed in the quality of the product.

After 7 months of use the washer now sounds like an aircraft engine during the spin cycle Extremely disappointing that one of the major components in the washer, the transmission, is failig within a year.

I bought the largest laundry center I could find to clean my households needs including king size down comforters and small area rugs only to learn it was not able to handle the loads event though the 'capacity' was larger than most.
Yeah! No bending over
from Michigan, United States
This product is wonderful for our needs. No bending over to get clothes in and out of the washer and dryer. I've had a high-efficiency in the past and hated it. I like that I have control over the water level and can disperse my detergent in the water before adding the clothes. The only problem is that after a month the 'quick rinse' feature stopped working. I love this feature. I called for service last week and it is being repaired this week! Fast and friendly service.
Just what I needed
from Asheville, NC, United States
This is an example of great design and functional use of space saving dimension. Apartment living can be trying as everything is compartmentalized. But with that, one needs to be able to have the luxury of a washer and dryer, and one that fits both the available space and ones needs. This offers both.

About Me Frequent User
I bought this unit less than two years ago, and had a problem within the first 5 months with the machine stopping mid wash cycle—pressing the start button started the machine again, but it was annoying to have to do this each time.A repairman came out and replaced the computer board. The same problem reoccurred 6-7 months later. And again, and again. Every 6-7 months they replaced the board for nearly two years. Finally the last technician discovered they had been ordering the wrong board. We waited a month for the correct board but the new board didn't fix it either. I believe replacing it with the wrong board damaged the machine but GE disagrees.GE finally agreed to give me a replacement machine, but not completely without cost. I am being charged nearly $300 for my troubles. Thanks GE, you just lost a customer for any future products.
Love this space saving unit. Easy to operate controls. Doesnt waste water.
Retro and Great Value
from Warrenton, VA, United States
Replaced a 5 YO stacked front load set. Bearings failed, many other problems. I have a 1950 cinderblock cottage, with much old technology - difficult to match up with new technology. Bought this for: Space saving, manual controls, low spin rate (it is on a wood floor not slab), energy efficiency, capacity. What I like: Design is VERY compatible with my retro house, sound level is very acceptable (it's in my kitchen), sensor for load weight (no guesswork), auto-mix for correct water temperature (no guesswork), CLEANS and DRYS clothes, easy to adjust leveling myself (no professional help needed), short cycles, ease of installation, simple to use, minimal vibration through floor, retro styling! What needs improvement: Manual should state detergent type, needs sound at end of dry cycle. Minor flaws, MAJOR IMPROVEMENT, and VERY IMPORTANT to support a U.S. company.
