Comments about GE Top Loading 4.2 Cubic Foot Washer:
I like the lower water level to clean the clothes but do not like the fact that the words "water level" are not on the washer. I do not like the fact that it can go out of balance very easily and it is hard to get it back into balance. I am 4* satisfied.

Top loading washer

I miss my front loader. It had several computer board problems. The repair guy suggested that a top loader with an agitator would have fewer repair issues. Hence this purchase. The machine is very loud and the agitator is rough on our clothes. It doesn't clean as well either. If you are accustomed to the agitator and top loader, you'll be content, as it has lots of features and does an adequate job, but if you've ever owned a front loader don't bother you'll be disappointed.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Do not like that I don't have much control on the water level

I researched this machine thoroughly before I bought it. I was very happy with it until it started ruining my clothes. I now have to wash my light clothing in my sink because they get non-removeable stains in the washer. I do not put my clothes in the dryer.

Purchased a month ago and cleans better than my old front loader.

Light Duty only
from DeWitt County, TX, United States
I bought this 2 months ago and wish I could return it. It does not have the ability to handle a King size blanket or heavy loads without moving around the floor. Deep fill only works if you stand there and keep pushing the button or set to Heavy Duty cycle, which automatically uses the highest water level. Unable to use more than one option per load, i.e. cannot "soak" and "2nd rinse" for same load.

I bought this top-load machine a few months ago and it has performed perfectly. Very happy with it so far.

Best Washer I've ever owned!
from Rocky Point, NC, United States
This is the first time I've purchased a GE appliance. I have always been faithful to another name brand because I had one that worked great for 15 years while I raised my six children, and then got a second one of the same brand when I moved. It worked fine I too for the 12 years I used it before giving it to my son when I remarried and got a new house. I insisted on staying with this brand, claiming it was THE BEST mid priced range brand available. I purchased their deluxe 2012 clothes washer. It was state of the art, with no agitator. The salesman insisted that I wouldn't be happy with the old fashioned agitator type washer once I used this new version. I finally gave in to the pressure and we bought the no agitator type machine . I had a hard time getting used to loading the machine around the plate, leaving the center open as if there were an agitator there. I didn't like having to put the washer through its special wash the washer cycle, but I did it like clockwork anyway. I carefully selected only " He" brand detergents too. But, I couldn't wash heavy blankets in this machine, like I had with my past washing machines. Some heavily soiled clothes had to be washed twice. The drain hose would get clogged with horrible smelling thick yellow gunk every 3-4 months . I could tell because the clothes would go through the spin cycle and come out wet. I would have to suction the end of the drainage hose out with a wet/dry shop type vacuum cleaner. Then the washer started sounding like a jet airplane taking off during the spin cycle right after our extended warranty ran out. A few months later water started pouring out from underneath and flooded my laundry room and adjacent hallway, destroying the baseboards and trim, the bottom of the doors, the laundry room floor and the hallway carpeting. After finding out what had broken in the relatively new clothes washer, my husband decided it wasn't worth the cost of repairing it. He informed me that he would buy any brand of washing machine except for the brand I had always chosen before. After more than two hours of studying the various brands and options, and attempting to determine the best value for the money, we picked the GE Washing machine. It had all the features I was looking for, including an agitator, and it was reasonably priced. From the very first time I used my new GE washer, I knew we had made the right decision. It ran quietly, took less time to wash the load, the clothes came out cleaner and had less water left in them than my previous machine. I couldn't be happier.

I've never met anyone who needed all the bells and whistles on modern clothe washers. Basic selections of hot/cold and start/stop are all that 95% of your customers need. And ridding the 'he' regulations would certainly improve the cleaning/rinsing cycles and enable larger loads to be washed, rather than two smaller loads with necessary 2nd rinses.
