Wonderful, quiet and efficient washer

Comments about Hotpoint 3.6 Cu. Ft. Top Loading Washer - White:
After doing research for months online and in person, I chose this Hotpoint 3.7 washer to replace my 25 year old workhorse of a washer. I think I chose well. I didn't want the hassle and expense of electronics and liked that this model had knobs, no gears, no HE bells and whistles, that you could stop the wash if you needed to, and that it was white rather than the new cold metal look. I also chose this for the plastic basket since my old model from a different manufacturer had that and I had no problems with it. I was leaning toward the porcelain ones but I know they can chip and rust, and the "steel" baskets did not appeal to me as I know they can be noisy and have seams. They don't look like steel but rather some kind of metal mix, so those seams could end up rusting. I read all the reviews and have concluded, as did some other reviewers, that the people that had problems with this machine, just didn't read the manual or follow directions. It is a quiet machine, and washes well. There are a few snaps and pops when cycles change but no biggie. I like that there's a variety of wash cycles, like PULSE and REGULAR. The extra rinse option is great too. It spins to nearly dry so my dryer cycles are shorter now and I save on electricity that way as well as wear and tear on my clothes in the dryer! For washing, the clothes should not be wrapped around the agitator, but balanced and folded into the washer. I set the water and while it's running, add the detergent (it's not HE but still doesn't need much) so it can mix, then gently add the clothes. It's a great washer and am super happy with it. The only thing I wish it had is a lint and debris catcher like my old one. If you've had problems with noise or grinding make sure you are not allowing it to run and only then adding the clothes. There appears to be a kind of sensor that can tell if there's no clothes (by weight?) and it will misbehave. That's what happened when the deliveryman ran it. Once I ran it with a load of clothes and the right amount of water and detergent, no noise and no problems! It's too bad they are discontinuing this and the other washers that are similar to the old timer ones. I feel they don't make the newer ones as well as the old style ones. It's all about "planned obsolescence " isn't it? But I will take care of this one as i did the old one and I am sure it will last me a good long while.

Overall it's a good washer. I don't like that I cannot open the lid without the washer stopping. I understand on the spin cycle, but not the wash cycle. It doesn't fill with water to where the picture shows. I also didn't realize that I didn't have a Hot/Hot cycle. It's an OK washer.

Have to watch the water level because it never fills all the way up for a super load. end up having to hold the reset water button to get it to fill up. clothes don't seem to clean
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The blue jeans come out rather winkled, but otherwise everything else is great. (The competitor brank that was disposed of made the blue jeans smoother with almost no pressing). The wash cycle used was permanent press.
Excellent washing and spinning

This new washer has reduced my laundry work, for it washes thoroughly, spins ;the moisture out so the drying is short and the clothing wrinkle free.

Energy Efficient is not always a good thing
By short one

I bought this unit to match the dryer that I had to buy, even though my old washer worked just fine. Although this washer works fine, there's 2 things on it that I don't personally like. First, the tub is VERY deep and being a short person, I can't reach the bottom to get the clothes. But the 2nd one is why I'm giving the rating. Being Energy Efficient on this unit means "no hot water". Even when you turn the knob to hot, none will every come out. I have even tried turning off my cold water supply line, and still, only warm water comes into the unit. To me, that is an issue if I cannot use hot water to kill germs on dirty dish towels and sheets. So now I have to manually add 5 gallons of hot water to each load from my bath tub for those loads. I will be replacing it when I can afford to.
