Comments about Kitchen-Aid 1.4 Cu. Ft. Built-In Microwave - Stainless Steel:
I like the fact this microwave doesn't look like a typical microwave oven. I installed it above my KitchenAid oven and it looks great. It's easy to use and works well.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Microwave is OK
from Delaware County, OH, United States
Understanding the operation process is not easy and the dial knob is hokey. Door pull down versus side pull door is very inconvenient because it is difficult to get items out. Especially when handling hot dishes. Cooling cycle is lengthy and causes a long delay if the food needs more cooking time.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
The microwave sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Very frustrating.

It works great when it works, which is about 50 % of the time. A service call said the problem was with the door closing properly.
Does not work right after repair.

Door lights and on/off not working. Repaired once, but problems getting worse.

On off light activated by the door sticks, I wish it had an independent timer. Defrost and reheat has preprogrammed settings. It would be nice if it had more manual options. Big interior.
truly hideous drop down door

This microwave looks very nice but be aware before purchasing that the door is not flat when you open it, unlike an oven door. You cannot place anything on it or it will slide down. Microwave takes longer to cook than my previous one.
Designer needs help
When we close the door, the switch that turns out the light and allows the unit to start doesn't reliably activate. We have to push on the door to make it work. The repair guy that was sent from our appliance dealer told us that we had to close the door harder. He showed us, "It works 9 times out of 10." My 25 year old countertop GE microwave works 10 times out of 10. The repair guy is going to replace the switch to try to fix it. If that doesn't work, he may try something with the door. I think it's a really hokey design, and I don't have a lot of confidence in the repair guy. We bought a full complement of new Kitchenaid appliances. The oven needed a new roll out shelf. I'm not impressed.
Easy to Use

Theres a turn knob that advances the cook time. Because I have my microwave installed under the counter, it's much easier to use than pushing the correct buttons on a 10-digit key pad. They did have a little trouble installing the microwave because the specifications for ordering the cabinet opening are vague.
Over priced, plain Jane features

We bought this unit 8 months ago to match our other Kitchenaid appliances. The drop down door is very inconvenient, being built in especially for shorter people. You have to baby the door, or it won't work. There is NO timer, minimal features, difficult to clean inside. Low power by standards today. For the price charged it is not worth it.

we purchased our unit about 6 weeks ago. From a price point perspective it is an awesome produce; it looks like a built in oven. It is a fantastic produce, functional, stainless inside. Sensor cooking works great even for baked potatoes.
