Comments about KitchenAid 1.4 Cu. Ft. Built-In Microwave - Stainless Steel:
have had about 1 yr. The only thing I would recommend is a light that could be turned on & off at will.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

EASY TO INSTALL AND LOOKS GREAT. NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL SO FAR....
Should have a side door option
from Chesapeake, VA, United States
This microwave came with a new construction home we recently purchased. It was installed at eye level for a 6 foot person. The pull down door makes it very difficult for a person who is 6 feet tall to use. My wife and children simply can't use it without a step stool which creates a safety hazard. This is clearly designed to be a wall unit but the pull down door is a deal breaker if I had to purchase this unit myself. An option to open either from side or front would make this a much more versatile product.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
There's a learning curve

We recently installed this microwave with our recent kitchen remodel. For anyone considering this model, it must be installed counter height or lower as the front door opens like an oven, not sideways like a traditional microwave. If you install it any higher you will potentially burn yourself when removing food. It has worked like a charm but I do use the "cheat sheet" that was included. It has lots of preprogrammed options, but you won't know what they are without the sheet. My previous kitchen had a similar GE microwave that opened straight & had a dial versus push button so I didn't have issues with this one. For some it would be an adjustment in functionality. Matches my other appliances so I'm a happy camper.
My husband uses this more than I do and he loves it. Easy to use. Keep warm feature is nice.
Good simple design
It should be Good for a small kitchen and its performance is great
Not a good design
The light no longer works, nor does the auto cool down, which caused the bulb cover to melt. There is no way to change the bulb, so we have to pay for a service technician to come out. This is an expensive microwave. I would not recommend.

Bought with new home package to match other kitchen appliances. Made to sit about chest high over a separate oven unit. We got double ovens and wanted the matching microwave and had it installed about eye level in a cabinet over the counter. Unfortunately, the pull down door doesnt lend well to elevated installations and it can't be altered. There also isn't a side open door model in this family. So it looks really nice, works pretty good, but cumbersome to use in our set up. One notable mention is the exhaust fan that runs after you cook something for a couple minutes or so. Pretty cool. It is a fancy model so you'll need to get use to & learn to use the bells and whistles.
Love our new microwave

Love the look, features, and ease of use of our new microwave. It's mounted below the counter so the pull down door makes a lot of sense. Seems to cook very evenly.
simple to use

I like the simplicity it is to use the features on the microwave, especially the one minute button and the dial knob
