Comments about Kitchen-Aid 2.0 Cu. Ft. Over-The-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel:
I bought this microwave after we became empty nesters so this was NOT heavily used at all. This microwave on lasted 5 years and 2 weeks - after the warranty expired. I had other brands that have lasted several years!!! It will be cheaper to buy another than to repair this microwave and I will be looking at other brands and NOT Kitchenaid!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought kitchenaid thinking it was a quality product. I was very wrong. This microwave stopped heating shortly after purchase. Paid costly repairs. It stopped again and fixed again. Now the plastic handle is broken! This on a very high end microwave? Have had equal problems with the high end Refrigerator we bought and the dishwasher does not do a good job. Never again!
Best microwave ever!

We purchased the oven approximately 2 months ago and we don't think we have had a better product. Folks that have seen it say it looks very sleek and space age. An important feature is the programming. You don't have to read several hours to learn how to cook different types of foods. Just a few pushes of the controls and it's set. Cooking is even and hot clear through.

Bought it, installed it, did not work. Uninstalled it, had it repaired, reinstalled it, quite working. Uninstalled it, had it repaired reinstalled it, quit working. Uninstalled it, had it repaired, reinstalled it, works intermittently. Uninstalled it, had it repaired, reinstalled it. works intermittently. All repairs covered by warranty but apparently the bugs cannot be removed. Do not buy this product.
This oven is perfect for our kitchen
We bought an older house that desperately needed updating, the kitchen has had to wait till other more pressing needs were addressed. However, we did buy all new appliances for the move-in. The old vent hood was the mustard yellow of the 70s. there was no spot for a microwave. The space was 36" -too large for the standard MW over the stove, so we made the choice to buy this one in 2010. My husband and I installed it. It was heavy and cumbersome to install but it is sturdy and in place. it connected easily to the external vent and plugged right in where the old vent hood had been. Pros: high power-more than our old one-have had to adjust the cooking time to shorter than what we were used to. easily adjustable, great timer, sensor heating, quick buttons like "Popcorn", etc. -easy to keep clean, filters easy to remove and replace. lighting adjustable and is adequate for the task, good air flow., large capacity inside. Cons: it looks big and imposing, Vent fan is very loud on any speed but low. lightbulbs have to be special ordered as do the vent filters as they are not a standard size. We live in an area with frequent small power blips and outages so the time and date have to be re-set every time the power is lost. a couple of times the mw has just "hung" - that is the buttons just did not respond. On those occasions we unplugged and replugged and the system reset itself without issues.

Builder Installed - Major repairs, Failure
The unit was installed in Oct 2010. In Dec 2012, I spent $300 on repairs of internal parts (thermometer and motor). In Dec 2014 the unit totally stopped working; the thermometer was being replaced when an "bubbled" magnetron was discovered. The magnetron can not be replaced - even so it was another $120 for the service call. The unit met my needs for cooking vegetables, defrosting rolls and meatballs, and cooking an occasional ready-to-eat meal. It was easy to use. The cooking timer helpful. It could use a clock with automatic reset from power outages and for savings time twice a year.

I have had this product in use for a month and the fuze required to be replaced after the unit stopped working. Also, there is no pause feature if you want to pause the unit during heating/cooking.

The parts in this built-in microwave are difficult to access for repair.

I purchased this microwave almost two months before the actual installation date of 1/18/13. It was mainly used to warm foods for 1-2 minutes at a time. It was in service until 12/31/13 and then went completely dead. I had to pay a contractor to remove it before the authorized repair service would work on it. The repairman had to remove numerous screws to get inside the microwave. The problem was a 20-amp fuse that was very difficult to reach. The microwave is huge and requires two people to move it. I now have to call the contractor to re-install it. I am sorely disappointed in the reliability of this product. I am concerned that this problem may recur. Based on my experience with this microwave, I believe it is a lemon. If you should buy it, make sure you have the extended warranty.
Love the temperature sensor. No more burned popcorn or scaulding soup!
1970's kitchen needed a 36" inch hood. Now I have room on the cabinet to prepare food. Fit perfectly. Was scared it would hang down too low but it is perfect for cooking. Even with a stock pot. And better temperature control. Was a big surprise.
