bought less than a month ago but nice unit!!
As it turns out, the control panel plastic was "user-error" in that the plastic did indeed need to be removed (it looked like it was part of the control panel). So, humbly, the statement from Alohaco should be retracted. Enjoy!

We have used this for two weeks now and we are very happy. Reheating food is very fast. The key pad buttons are easy to use. In addition, the microwave is very quiet!
Careful - control panel not up to standard
We bought the microwave 3 months ago and it was installed a month later. We didn't use the microwave for a while and the plastic on the control panel started to wear off. Called kitchenaid who stated "this issue would be a cosmetic complaint and this would have only been covered within the first 30 days of purchase." Now I'm stuck with it. Doesn't look very good. Buyer beware - unfortunately this microwave is not up to standard.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good, but not great
By Captain Freon

This model looks great, especially with the trim kit. On the plus side, the unit has lots of room, fit and finish of the stainless steel is good and the cooking is quick and even. On the down side, it has a very 'tinny' sound when you shut the door. Other reviewers have mentioned this and it is noticeable. Given the solid feel and sounds from other KitchenAid appliances, this is a disappointment. Also, the keypad is plastic, not glass, so you have to press the keys juuuust right to get them to respond. This is a good unit, but it could be a lot better. In the end we returned it and upgraded to a built-in.
Replacement Units - 2 in less than three years
from Fort Worth, TX
We purchased the same exact unit as we previously had since we are selling our home in the next few months and wanted the kitchen appliances to match. Also, we found it difficult to find a unit that would fit properly within the cabinet space that was already configured for this unit. We are very displeased that the last unit we purchased, which was the same exact model that we just purchased, only lasted about 18 months before the heating element burned out and we were told no repair was possible. This replaced the same unit that was existing in the house when we purchased the home back in June of 2014. So, we are now on our third unit in less than three years. This does not say much for your quality control.

Just moved into a brand new house and these kitchen aid appliances were our choices and the microwave is good looking and functions flawlessly.
Heats quickly and more evenly then our previous unit.

The cons are it lacks a pull handle for the door, you must push a release button to open the door. Also many times we have had to reclose the door in order to make it cycle. The beeping after the meal has been heated is annoying.
