Comments about Kitchen-Aid 21.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:

We did a gut-job renovation in our kitchen and family room in February 2011 and bought all new appliances including the KitchenAid french door fridge-freezer. We wanted to maximize interior space usually consumed by in-door water dispensers and wanted a pull-out freezer drawer that would be more fully accessible to my spouse, who uses a wheelchair. We thought the pull-out deli-drawer would also be easier for him to use to grab lunch or yogurt rather than messing with deep square drawers. It has lived up to its showroom floor promise on all three counts, and I've been able to stash enough food in it for big parties (prepping and leftovers). It is, of course, just out of warranty... Over the last month or two, we've found puddles of water on the floor just to one side of the freezer drawer. At first we assumed whoever used the drawer last left it ajar, but as other reviewers noted, it really does shut quite solidly. But when it happened the third time, I started to monitor ice formation on the bottom of the freezer compartment: it occurs every couple of days now, and the thin sheet quickly builds up to the point where it appears to be forcing its way out of the freezer... If I only knew where?! I found a thread on a DIY appliance fix-it site that says there is a replacement drain part, so I'm going to follow up on the link posted there and see if I can get the repair done on-the-house, since it is a known problem. Will post back if this solves the leak.

VERY NOISY and Plastic, plastic, plastic

      By Scout7

Comments about Kitchen-Aid 21.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:

The is the noisiest refrigerator EVER! We've had service men look for the noise or a problem with no resolution and it just seems it's nature. The interior is made of much plastic which breaks quickly and easily in stress points that can not be easily fixed. Very quickly the meat tray door cover post broke. This is not a part that can be easily replaced. The second time I went to change the water filter the door clamp snapped off as well. I've got white duct tape and super glue holding my refrigerator interior together. I expected far more.

Comments about Kitchen-Aid 21.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:

Have had this fridge for 6 months in a second home we recently built. Am renovating the kitchen in our primary home and am buying another one. Love the interior layout. The full-width drawer is useful for so many things. I bought a clear plastic bin for the second shelf that holds condiments such as soy sauce, hot sauce, horseradish -- you get my drift, any small bottle that might get lost in the back. As another reviewer said, tall bottles will fall over if the gallon door shelf is not full enough, but I simply make sure there are enough things on the shelf to prevent that. The two pullout freezer shelves and automatically latching ice bin are nice features. Freezer holds more than I expected. Drawbacks: 1) the feet on the fridge are really ugly - cheap looking plastic. While that may not matter in most cases, in our second home the kitchen/living/dining are all together and when sitting in the living room you have a direct view of the feet. 2) you have to be sure to close the freezer door correctly - it is relatively easy to close it improperly so that one side is slightly ajar, although so slightly that you might not notice it. This happened to us and we were away for 2 weeks. When we returned, there was a significant ice build up on the side of the door that was ajar. Now we are careful to check that the door closes properly - problem solved. All in all this is a great frig.

This is the worst refrigerator ever. Small - yes! Doors only close a certain way - yes! ice cubes jump all over the floor - yes! Noisy - yes! I can't think of a single thing to recommend this appliance except the interior lighting is good. I hate it!

I like the product in general. The one issue I have with the refrigerator is that the left door doesn't always close easily - it sometimes "runs into" the right door on closing.

Comments about Kitchen-Aid 21.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:

We were a little worried about a couple of things. First, we went from a standard depth 30" fridge to the wider counter depth fridge, and we were worried about enough space to fit trays, etc. for parties. No problems there. Second, we weren't too sure about the water dispenser in the fridge and the ice in the bottom freezer. We haven't had a problem, and I've been glad that our kids, their friends, and others cannot randomly hit ice/water dispensers and make a mess. The inside water dispenser is fine, no leaks or drips. The only thing I don't love is that the stainless steel isn't the kind that doesn't get little teeny rust spots. On occasion I'll move a magnet (Usually if I've cooked noodles or something else that gives off a lot of steam in the prior week) and there will be little teeny rust spots. careful cleaning gets rid of them, but also can get scratch the surface so be careful. This doesn't happen all of the time, but it is definitely something that should be changed.

This refrigerator is great! It is beautiful and I love the counter depthsize. It fits in perfectly in my kitchen and does not over-power my kitchen like my other refrigerator did. I love how the doors open and ther is room for everything and I can see everythign at one glance. I also love that an alarm will go off if the doors are left open by mistake. I've only done that once and I was not sure what the sounds was when I heard it. But I followed the beep and realized that the door had been left open. I would recommend this fridge to anyone! Thanks, KitchenAid for a great product!!

This ref. has everything I was looking for, the freezer on the bottom, glass shelves and the large storage space in the bottom of the ref with lots of storage in the doors. I love the fact that the freezer is on the bottom, I am short and it makes it much easier to locate frozen goods and to get the ice.

We selected this model when another Kitchenaid fridge didn't work out. Long story, and no reflection on your products, but our (former) kitchen designer miscalculated dimensions. Anyway, this one is in fact superior in its attention to detail (eg drawer function) so ultimately it turned out to be a 'good' mistake. If I were to complain about anything, it would be the center 'flap' between the 2 doors: I know this is the norm for French door refrigerators, but sometimes it gets hung up and the door doesn't fully close. We did a lot of research prior to making a decision, and so far it looks like we chose well: it is how I would expect a Kitchenaid product to perform.
