Not the old Kitchenaid!
from San Jose, CA
Comments about KitchenAid 23.9 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator - White:
I have had this refridgerator for about 1 1/2 years and it is the worst one I have ever had. Cheaply made plastic parts!-drawer fronts break off easily, ice maker is undependable, I take good care of my appliances and have never had these issues with any previous one. Kitchenaid used to be a high end brand, if this is representative of their quality, I will not be patronizing them again!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Nothing But Problems
By Not Mrsfreeze
Hi. I thought I was doing right by finally buying, what I thought, was the best kitchen appliances - Kitchenaid. Unfortunately, I have had problems with both the double oven and this fridge. Lucky for me I bought extended warranty for both and boy did those warranties get put to work. The oven's heating element went and another started sparking. For the fridge, there was always mold growing in the back, getting on all of my items. Then the freezer stopped freezing my ice cream. My kids loved the fact that they could drink their ice cream. I wasn't too impressed. Glad I had another freezer to use. Anyway long story short, Thanks to the extended warranty, I will be exchanging. I thought I was just unlucky with this fridge but after reading these reviews, I guess I wasn't the only unlucky one so I will exchange for a different brand. Really sorry cause wanted this relationship to work out.
Worst appliance I have ever purchased
By No freezer in Hawaii

Have had this for just over 1-1/2 years. The first one was broken when it was delivered. The second one has seen serviced 6 times so far. Currently the freezer is not working at all due to a leak in the sealed system. We haven't had a working freezer/ice maker in almost two months. And the repair company Kitchenaid has assigned is less than responsive. Again, worst appliance I have ever purchased and I will never purchase Kitchenaid again

Having issues with the internal cooling coils. Slow leek. Lost use of freezer first and now after a week of waiting for warranty repairs frig is no longer cooling. Don't know how long it will be until we have a working refrigerator. The problem with the refrigerator is a design flaw and a common fail. We had to pay $89.00 for a repairman to come out to identify the breakdown. When you consider this problem is caused by poor design and they're repairing it with improved parts you'd think kitche aid would cover the repair. Estimated cost of repair: $1,200-$1,400!The ice maker is not very efficient. It does keep up with a small family but if you're planning a family get together or party be sure to buy ice.Our snack drawer cracked within four years of use. Be aware that replacing the drawer is expensive...$125 for a small sized plastic bin. About the only positive thing I can say about this refrigerator is I do prefer the counter depth size. After talking to several repairmen and finding out most refrigerators on today's market are built to last only about seven years I would say this refrigerator is definitely not worth the money you would spend on it.

On a newly build home, we upgraded to Kitchen Aid appliances; what a mistake. The appliances are less than 3 years old and the frig has broken down 3 times already and this time the ice maker is not dispensing ice however in order to fix it we need a new freezer door which is around $1800 !! And the oven broke too and doesn't heat at all; all new elements needed, really? How cheap is this brand, and we paid extra for appliance upgrade. Never ever again will we buy anything Kitchen Aid.

After 3 years and 4 months the unit stopped cooling due to a "bad sealed system," a leak in the connecting tubing according to the KitchenAid-authorized repairman. KitchenAid has in fact passed off the problem to an unresponsive repair service more interested in selling a new service plan than fixing the problem. We will be 1 to 2 weeks without refrigeration. We are disappointed in the quality and the service.
ANOTHER ICE MAKER ISSUE
from Anderson, SC
We have had unit 2 years. Ice maker did not work on arrival, changed it out and working before we moved into home. Stopped working 6 mos ago, I researched on line and cleaned electronic eye controllers out. Started up that nght. Now not working again have cleaned it 3x. Notice several reviews with poor ice maker. Have another technician coming out next week to look at

I rarely write reviews, but as I often use them to make purchase decisions I thought I would write one for this refrigerator to help someone out.We have had nothing but trouble with this unit. It's 1 1/2 years old and the list of failures is extensive. First, over a weekend it stopped cooling prompting a service call that resulted in the replacement of the motrs, compressors and mechanical parts that make things cool (no technical knowledge on my part). This was under warranty, but the repair was about $1000 according to the tech. Beyond the loss of cooling, the overflow tray on the floor overflowed.A month later, the overflow tray spilled over again the tech was out for a second time. He diagnosed what he said was a cracked line to the in-door water supply. I was not home, but I checked the part he replaced and it wasn't cracked so I was suspicious. Sure enough, during a Christmas Eve family get together, more water on the floor and the drip pan was again overflowing. I should also mention that we frequently have puddles of water in the refrigerator which we were told was normal condensation. Come on...This is now the third major failure and we noticed that each "event" took place when we had several people over (we are empty nester's so its usually only 2 people) and the fridge is getting used more for water/ice and is opened & closed more often. Then we saw water coming out of the seam below the opening where the water/ice dispenser is. This has us thinking there is something wrong in the water supply to the dispenser. We shut off the water supply and so far no more condensation or overflowing drip tray (we went out of town so we were hopeful this was the cause). A call was placed today for yet another service on this refrigerator which is unreal to us as our last unit lasted 18 years with zero issues (a GE Monogram) and my Mom's old Amana which was relegated to the garage was at least 25 years old without a failure. This Kitchenaid unit is really disappointing, I would never recommend it to anyone. The service people are all very nice but give inconsistent answers and opinions as to the issues.

This is the PERFECT counter depth fridge!! It has great capacity, is quiet, and has good food preservation
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this refrigerator along with a Kitchen Aid double oven, gas range, and dishwasher. We needed to purchase the counter depth size because of the configuration of our kitchen. After just 3 years - our ice maker stopped making ice....that is a bad sign b/c that meant that our freezer and refrigerator was not cooling properly. We have been without a properly working refrigerator and freezer for over a month - last week the refrigerator and freezer was "repaired"....actually they took the whole thing apart and changed the evaporator and compressor.....still not working - our freezer is currently warmer than our home. We have lost a fridge and freezer full of food TWICE - very unhappy - do your research before you invest.......
