I've had my new fridge for about a month. I LOVE the features...the actual temperature of both compartments, the size of the ice cubes, the water feature.

Seems like a nice product but….

Comments about Kitchen-Aid 24.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Monochromatic Stainless Steel:

After a couple months of living with it, I must say the curved handles on all the appliances we purchased do not look as good as the straight or dowel shaped handles on other products. The big curved handles look dated and a little goofy. So far the fridge is working just fine and doing it's job. The left top door and the freezer are easy for a child or an older person to leave slightly open. The warning beeper is very discreet and you may not notice that it is going off. The freezer has one Major problem. The freezer light is controlled by a switch above the door. The spring in the switch is soooo lame that it easily frosts up and doesn't work. Sort of like the GM ignition switch inability to stand up to use. The switch issue is so blatant that I better get a 3 year warranty because if something as simple as the freezer light is so badly designed, what else lurks within? The freezer light works about half the time or less and we got the fridge in May.

      Wonderful Product

Totally enjoy this new refrigerator. It is so very easy to keep clean, no fingerprints, etc. Lots of freezer space with an added feature of a pull out so that even more can be kept where one can see what is there. But most importantly I love the crisper drawers...I can store veggies for much longer than I could with my older refrigerator, thus no waste...........

Looking for a replacement due to aggravating design problems

      By lynneeve

Comments about Kitchen-Aid 24.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Monochromatic Stainless Steel:

We have had this refrigerator for 7 years. It has worked well, but this is why we find it too aggravating to keep: There are thin flimsy plastic parts that cannot be replaced or glued that broke almost immediately with gentle use by two older adults: One hinge on the deli tray cover, so we have to live with the cover sliding off and crashing onto the floor constantly, and the other is part of an assembly for the right door closure. It is a constant worry to make sure both doors are closed securely. The right side wants to stay open slightly ajar, letting the fridge warm up. There is an alarm for an open door, but it is anemic and too high-pitched for my husband to hear, and nobody would hear it over a TV. The open door probability, along with an excessive time required to cool the interior again, is my main criticism. In the summer the interior heats up 7-8 degrees in just the time it takes me to grab lunch items out at a manic pace and throw them back in and close the doors again. I would strongly recommend that the deli tray cover be designed in two parts, one part aligned with each door, so that both doors do not have to be opened at the same time -- warming the fridge faster -- when only one item needs removal or replacement. The water filter cannot be changed by a typical woman, nor at all easily even by an extremely strong man. The placement is high in a top corner, and the strength required to turn the filter for removal or insertion usually causes the assembly to fly off and crash. The fridge heats up during this operation because it is so difficult and time consuming. Our ice maker leaks, creating a solid block of ice in the bin. I have not called for repair because the thought of having the fridge disconnected during the operation and losing all my food is too disheartening. We are living with an ice pick to break up the block as needed. Although the interior is huge, I have the worst problem trying to load and find anything, compared to any other refrigerator I have had. I think the "free-form" space may be counter-productive. These details may be common on all French Door styles, and if so, we will choose a side by side that only requires one open door at a time.
