kitchenaid - 30-Inch 4 Element Induction Cooktop, Architect® Series II
from Manitoba, Canada
Comments about Kitchen-Aid 30.75" Electric Cooktop - Black on Black:
I have owned this cooktop for 18 months and have had to replace it 4 times as the boost function on the large burner trips a breaker and I then get an F47 error which means that the console has to be replaced. I have updated the wiring and purchased a new set of cookware thinking that my existing set was causing a problem. It isn't the cookware. I believe that the unit needs to go back to the workshop to be refined. Kitchenaid has been very helpful with replacing the cooktop. It is just a very slow process calling the help line, waiting for the service people and then replacement parts or unit to come in.

A novel cooking experience!

This purchase was part of a kitchen re-model which included all new appliances; I am very pleased with this series. Its clean lines, efficiency, and performance complement all the other pieces. Induction cooking is new to me and the learning curve continues but that's because I used traditional electric stoves for over 40 years. The power boost feature is impressive! The cooktop is easy to clean and the temperatures seem to run true, though after two months I'm still working on matching the numbers with the amount of heat that the induction process creates when compared to using a traditional electric stove.

We bought this unit to replace another brand that had failed three times in as many months. The kitchenaid had good reviews, would fit in the custom cut in our granite countertops, and looked nice. The only complaint I have is the unusual sizing of the elements. The two elements on the bridge (a feature I wanted) are so close together that it is difficult to fit two medium sized pots on it. And, the large element is virtually too large to be of much use.

Bought this cook-top last month and we really enjoy it. We opted for the black edge version ($100 cheaper) and it looks great on our mostly black counter top. Very easy to use. Water boils incredibly fast and the control is very precise. Go from boiling to simmer instantly. Anybody that tells you gas is better is just wrong. Safe, easy to clean and very sleek. Have to make sure your pans are compatible (check with a magnet), but induction is the wave of the future. The pattern on the top is subtle and breaks things up so a little dirt or smear is not as obvious. We bought the version with the bridge element and have not found a griddle for it yet. Called KitchenAid and they said they "were working on it". We looked at many other induction cooktops and this was the best looking one.

Would not recomend this. Had for one year and mother board burnt out, fixed on warranty and 4 months later 2 burners went out! Have to make sure the pan size is exact to burner. Need to use magnetic pans which are hard to find in all sizes. Replaced with Kitchenaid gas cooktop.

We bought this unit several months ago, and in general are quite pleased. The responsiveness is amazing, and controlling boil overs is very easy. Pasta water boils in a fraction of the time. When boil overs do happen, its super easy to cleanup, as the pasta water does not dry as a residue. Finding a new set of pots that were not too heavy was a bit challenging, but we found a cuisinart set near us that work great and were not too expensive. Also the large burner is hard to find a pot for, as the stove will not work unless the pot size is close to the burner size. There were reports of clicking and buzzing noises, but these are very subtle and not annoying, in fact they help you know the stove is on.
A really fantastic cooktop

We finally did a complete kitchen remodel last summer and replaced our dying Jenn-Air downdraft from the 80's with this induction cooktop. I hated cooking on the old unit. It was slow, unresponsive, and one burner was completely out. The new unit is a night and day difference. Induction cooking is the way to go. The burners are extremely responsive, fast heating, and don't waste heat to the kitchen. 4 quarts of cold water for pasta can be brought to a rolling boil in 9 minutes. Yes, I timed it. Clean up is also a breeze because the surface is smooth and doesn't heat up. The induction heats the pot not the glass so the surface is hot only from the pot sitting on it. While it might seem that is not a big deal, it makes it much less hot than a radiant element and it cools down much faster too. This prevents food and spills from burning onto the surface. So far I have only used dish soap on it and it is immaculate even after daily use for 6 months. No cleansers or special soaps are required. You can't say that about any other type of radiant or gas cooktop. The controls are also very responsive. It's a different touch though, than a tablet or PC so it takes a little getting used to. You have to hold for just a brief moment and I suppose they designed it that way to reduce accidental settings. As I use my cooktop I am continually delighted by this purchase.

This product works intermittently
Sometimes it just won't turn on, but instead beeps. The breaker needs to be tripped to get it going again. Yesterday no matter what, it kept beeping so I left the breaker off (which also disabled the oven). It was so unreliable while I was cooking for Christmas that I brought out my 2-burner hotplate. When it is working, I love it. Fast and easy to clean.
