HORRIBLE AND UNSAFE. KNOBS GET SCALDING AND DANGEROUSLY HOT.
from New Jersey
Comments about KitchenAid 30" Free Standing Gas Range - Black on Black:
Thought I was buying a quality product because of the KitchenAid name. Bought it a week ago and used the oven for the first time last night. Front panel and knobs got so scaldingly hot that it burned to touch them. The oven vents right onto the metal knobs and the plate the the knobs are on. This is HORRENDOUSLY UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS. No one who will ever have any children in the house should EVER have this in their kitchen, and it is unsafe even for people who know what they are doing. I have contacted the Consumer Products Safety Commission and am contacting the Consumer Affairs office of my county. I have used a rapid-read thermometer to measure how hot the handles and plate get. I measured the front plate at 154 degrees F and the second knob at 132 degrees Fahrenheit. Second degree burns occur at 131 degrees. I have video proof. There are numerous complaints about this, I now see. THIS RANGE IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. I need for KitchenAid to take this range back so that I can replace it without being charged a restocking fee by the store.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

2 knobs got stuck within 2 years of buying new unit
By Raghu S.
We bought a new gas range unit Model # KGRS505XSS. Within 1 year one of the knobs got stuck in off position. We had to call in an authorized appliance expert to fix it at cost of apprx $150. Then 1 year later a different knob got stuck in off position and we're unable to turn that burner on. The failure is random in that it just shows up even when we're not operating that knob at all. We've been using different brand of gas ranges for 30 years in small family type kitchen use cases. This type of problem has never happened to us before, so we cannot even attribute this to poor use on our side. This points either to a defective unit OR a fundamental design problem. We bought KitchenAid expeting high quality and reliability. Now shelling out $150 to $200 each time is very frustrating for a new unit and we have to schedule a repair person and wait for half day window for the gentleman to show up.
I love it!

Our old range had seen better days and was due to be replaced. We decided on this Kitchen Aid and are happy we did. It has exceeded our expectations. I recommend a Kitchen Aid range for anyone looking for a new one.
Very pleased with performance and appearance so far.
Need to re-learn how to cook with gas
This gas stove is extremely hot. My pans, Cuisinart Stainless Steel, are great pans and I had no problems with them until the purchase of this stove. The handles get too hot to use without hot pads. The oven is also hotter than my electric range was, and it heats up the kitchen. I'm not sure if this is just because it's a gas range, or because something is not calibrated properly. I also have a problem with the layout of the burners. Both very high-powered, large burners are at the front of the stove, and the medium and small sizes are at the back. I would prefer to have the medium burner at the front because I am fairly short (not quite 5-ft) and it would be easier to cook at my preferred temperature (not so high) if the burner were closer. In talking with others who have gas ranges, this is a common issue for many of us. I've had the stove 3 months and the oven light has already been replaced twice, which seems odd to me. We bought the range to match the refrigerator, purchased 6 months earlier, not realizing that the model would be discontinued. This was the only stove I could find to match when we updated the kitchen in our newly purchased home. Learning to cook with gas is different, but I like many things about it. However, I was spoiled with a ceramic top range with respect to clean up. The gas range is much more difficult to keep clean.

I love this stove. It is very easy to use.
Stay Away from Kitchen Aid
We have had this for abut 3 years. It has always been a battle to keep the ovens working. Even under warranty the frustration of only having one oven ever work for any length of time finally convinced us that Kitchen Aid is making Junk. I can write a book on how the finish does not live up to the price paid (even on sale) or the flaky control panel. We are buying a Samsung or LG rather than try an repair an inferior Kitchen Aid.

On first blush this stove appears to be the quality one expects from kitchenaid but beware if you actually are someone who uses the oven. It became evident to me shortly while using this stove at my son's that there was a serious design flaw. The front plate (plate behind the knobs) gets quite hot to the touch while using the oven to bake, broil or roast. According to the folks at Kitchenaid, they sacrificed the insulation behind the plate in order to make a larger capacity oven. This may not seem like a big deal if you don't mind the potential of getting burned or you have little ones in the house. They actually admitted that it is a design flaw but followed up with, "that's the way it comes". Since it appears that this is not something that is shared when in the buying process, how would one know? I almost bought this stove myself and I cook and bake all the time. Glad I opted for a different brand. There is nothing on the front of that stove that gets hot! Kitchenaid can take a lesson from them. Why would anyone sacrifice safety for a inch of space. I know my son and daughter would not have purchased this stove had they known. They have a ten month old in the house!!! I have purchased Kitchenaid products for years and am just so disappointed in their cavalier attitude and lack of thoughtfulness when designing this stove and addressing customer satisfaction. Because it is a design flaw and not a mechanical issue, it is not covered under the warranty. In the year 2016 no stove should be hot to the touch anywhere that a child can get to.
Bought about month and a half ago. Product is pristine, and oven cooks everything thorough and perfect. Much better looking than my last one, and great for the price.
