36" Retractable Downdraft System, 600 CFM
Comments about KitchenAid 36" Downdraft:
Absolutely great-I could not be more pleased! I love the height because if I am using a tall stockpot the vent is still higher than the pot and vents wonderfully! The majority of my appliances are KitchenAid and I have been very pleased with them all!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Came severely damaged, even had trash inside the unit. Had to call and knock heads at PacSales to get it replaced. Appeared to be damaged and used. The continuing nightmare with all "new" Kitchenaid appliances bought from Pacific Sales. The second one appears to be ok, holding my breath. Seems tinny and cheaply made. Very Noisy. If I didn't have to have this type of blower, I'd not do this again. Or I would have gotten the Thermador that I had originally.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Installed this unit three years ago with nothing but failure. Had 6 repair visits from three companies - finally just disconnected the unit for safety as non repairable. There seems (to me) a design issue with the switches. The final response from KitchenAid was an offer to remove the unit and give us $1000 (less than the cost of a new unit and no recovery of the insurance we have been keeping) - and not even an apology. We have a custom installation that will only take this unit - alternative was to redo alll counters or replace it with the same (terrible) product. We chose to put another one in and keep paying extended warranties. Avoid this unit!

This vent really works well
from Roanoke, Virginia
This was purchased for a kitchen remodel where we replaced our 20 yr old kitchen and all of its appliances. We had a Thermador radiant glass cooktop with a down draft vent and really liked it, but we decided to go with all KitchenAid appliances (except a Sub Zero refrigerator purchased at a great end of season sale). This downdraft is extra tall, it has multiple speeds. It can be left on so that when it is raised up, it automatically comes on at the preset speed. It works great, cleans easily. The only negative, which is why I give it four stars, is that it just doesn't look or feel as well made as what I anticipated. Every other KitchenAid appliance that we purchased had a much higher quality appearance overall. Overall, not a big deal since most of the time it is out of sight.

Broken TWICE in less than 18 months
We purchased this new 2/2015. We hardly cook we just like this product for it's looks and matches all our other SS kitchenaid appliances. Thought it was a cool system how it can hide itself away when not being used. Well this unit quit working around 1/2016, just right before the warranty expired. We called KA customer service and was able to arrange repair. The whole repair process took TWO MONTHS. First they ordered parts, waited on the parts, and came back for repair when parts came in. Ooops, they ordered wrong parts. Then they ordered MORE parts and told us everything on back order for weeks. Finally got through the repair process and unit worked like new. Well that lasted less than six months. Just found out tonight that the unit quit working again. Does not stay up, vent would not shut off, etc. And now we are out of warranty. We've turned this unit on literally less than 30 times in the year and half we owned this. What a piece of junk and KA should be ashamed of their poor quality.
Does a Good Job

I have seen the reviews and looked at them carefully but decided to go ahead and purchase this anyway. I am glad I did. It does a good job, it's a sleek and cool design, plus I don't have an ugly, visually detracting overhead hood to contend with.I put the cooktop in the island and now I can interact with my guests while cooking. The fan has variable speeds to it can evacuate the entire room of smoke if needed, but on a lower setting it does not affect the flames and still does a good job.

Everything Broke But The Sheet Metal
By Chef Chape
from Southern Shores, NC
This system began failing within two years of being placed into operation. First was the switch. Next was the control board. Next was the retractor motor. Next and finally was the fan. Every sub-component except the sheet metal! Now it seems I have to replace the entire hood and fan system, which will likely run over $2500. KA has offered a similar unit for $800, but with a smaller fan and no installation, of course. That means I'm only out about $3000 or so. This from a premium American manufacturer who does not want to recognize the utter failure of this product. I beg them for help, but they're not interested. DO NOT BUY!!
