Broken weld during Holiday
By Grandma Kathy

Comments about KitchenAid 5 Speed Ultra Power Hand Mixer - Black:
Was happy with this until the beater weld broke during holiday baking. Seems this is a common problem.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I Absolutely Love it!!!
from Macungie, PA
My old mixer is no comparison at all to this KitchenAid Mixer. I only used it once so far, but let me tell you that it took a lesser amount of time with this one then my old one to mash potatoes and so quiet! And I found that the potatoes weren't even flying out of the bowl like with my other one, needless to say that one was in the garbage the day I purchased the KitchenAid!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am in love with my new mixer as well as my other kitchenaid gadgets. Yes, I have a few! Five and counting to be exact. They are a bit pricey but in the words of my Nana, "ya get what ya pay for"

I was happy with the product and performance until one of the beaters broke (wire separated at weld). This mixer was only 3 years old. Will not bother replacing the beaters as I was told by KA that "if anything was wrong with the design, they would have updated them," and "the Turbo Beater II from the 7 speed mixer would not fit" (neither of these is true).
Great Hand Mixer

This little mixer is perfect for every day jobs - lightweight and easy to use and powerful enough for smaller batches of dough.

I was super happy with this mixer when I first bought it. Easy to use, quiet. I think I have had this for less than two years. Just recently one of the beaters is falling apart-bottom beater wires on one beater are separating to the point of hitting the other beater. Now yesterday, the speed control is no longer working. If the mixer is plugged in it is automatically running. No way to adjust the speed or shut it off unless I unplug it. I am guessing this is out of warranty, but shouldn't it last longer than this?
Very happy with my mixer!

It is tougher than it looks. I am very happy I went with this model.

I use this mixer on a regular basis and it is just great. Easy to use, does a fantastic job, and has a lot of power to mix everything. My mashed potatoes are so fluffy and delicious since I purchased this mixer. Just terrific.

Recently purchased this gorgeous mixer. So handy for that little something you don't want to dirty the big Kitchen Aid for!

Problems with beaters breaking
from Green Bay, WI
I have had this beater for ~ 2 years. My beater heads have both come disconnected from the stem of the beater. My previous hand mixer lasted me 20+ years. While these heads are thinner than my previous mixer, which may have benefits when mixing (which I am unaware of?), I would expect that they should have lasted.
