Ice building up behind vegetable drawers and not cooling
from Santa Clarita, CA
Comments about KitchenAid 22.5 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:
Hello I have had my Kitchen Air Architect II series side by side SS counter depth refrigerator for 2 years and I'm experiencing the same problems listed on your website. Please let me know what can be done. The freezer is not getting cold (ice cream is not firm). Ice is building up behind the lower vegetable drawers in the refrigerator. I've read and adjusted the temperature controls to no avail. Please advise, I paid a for a top price product but I'm experiencing a sub-par product.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This has been a great addition to my kitchen. I love that I can remove the ice tray for larger ice needs. I love the look, I love that it measures the water. It is nice and bright inside making it easier to find the item you want.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a terrible refrigerator. Only have had it 18 months and today will be the fourth time for repair service. The vents on the fresh food side ice up and temperature starts to rise. Was told Kitcheaid will not do anything about this issue. Reading many other reviews with the same problem.
Sleek and gorgeous

Do not buy
from Wynnewood, pa
We bought this refrigerator almost a year ago. We have tried really hard to love it. It looks big, is nice and bright, and has a decent freezer capacity. The stainless steel is relatively easy to keep mostly looking clean and smudge-free. What they don't tell you when you buy it is that the crisper drawers, well as those in the freezer, only open about one third of the way. So, if you have a three pack of Romaine lettuce, it is nearly impossible to get into the drawer, much less get out. A bag of frozen fruit will fit if you squish it in, but once it is flat and frozen, it is nearly impossible to remove from the freezer. The drawers open only about as wide as a big apple. Anything larger, and you have to either cut it up for struggle to get it in and out. They also don't tell you – nor does KitchenAid – that the very large capacity top shelf should actually not have much on it if you wish to have consistent cooling throughout the refrigerator. You can see a vent at the very top of that top shelf. Fundamentally, you can put a couple of small yogurt containers on the top shelf, but absolutely do not block that vent or you will have condensation on the things you have in the door, and things at the bottom of the refrigerator will not be cold. Most of the time, people buy a large refrigerator like this because they need large capacity storage, for instance for a family with multiple teenagers and working parents. While KitchenAid was sympathetic, they basically said we were stuck. They could not tell us why the drawers didn't open all the way. We asked if we could trade the refrigerator in for something different where the drawers open all the way and there was greater flexibility adjusting the shelves so that it would be more functional, but they do not offer that kind of program. So we will be stuck with a beautiful, large, expensive refrigerator. Clearly, they knew this was a problem because there we design offers drawers that open all the way!
Nice looking but not functional
from Denver, CO
I was warned by a designer. Counter depth is great, but, yep, it's small. We have to shuffle food around to grab anything. We added another bin to the door for more storage which helps. There is no door stop so we have to tell friends not to even touch it because the door swings into our new cabinets and pulls. The door gets heavy with food/liquids in it so it swings pretty hard too - very big design flaw, and in this day and age? I would love to know a solution to this problem. Love the look, the lights inside are nice and the wine rack is great.
No Swing Adjustment on Side by Side Refrigerator Door
from Bainbridge Island, WA
Please be aware that unlike the French Door version the Side by Side refrigerator door will open more than 180 degrees and bang into (your wall, cabinets, door, etc) whatever is on the right side of your refrigerator and possibly dent the refrigerator door or your cabinets. Unbelievably there is NO SWING ADJUSTMENT!! When I called Kitchen Aid phone support, they advised that there is NO swing adjustment on the refrigerator and they DO NOT make a door swing adjustment kit for this model. Other than this rather big and important design mistake by (Whirlpool) Kitchen Aid the unit is performing as represented. I ended having to make my own door stop and installing it on the refrigerator bottom hinge. BUYER BEWARE
Best thing is that it matches all of my other new appliances for a kitchen remodel. I only saw pictures of it as it was not on display where I bought. Not a good way to buy an expensive appliance as I now find that the 3 bins are way too small. Couldn't even get a head of cauliflower or a head of lettuce in any of the drawers. Have to pile them on top of other food. The drawers and shelves are not deep.

I like the looks of this refrigerator, but the ice maker has already had many problems. It didn't work at all when we first got it. After two repairs, it works but makes ice very slowly. It takes two days to fill the bin. The water dispensed through the door is not cold. Repairman says these are design flaws that can't be fixed. Also, the vegetable bins are extremely small, so even getting in a head of broccoli is a challenge. Other than these two big issues, the fridge does a good job.
