By Regrets buying a new Kitchenaid
from Bethesda, MD
Comments about KitchenAid KDTM404EWH Dishwasher:
We bought this unit 18 months ago. After 5 months we realized the dynamic spray arm was lying on it's side on the bottom of the dishwasher and dishes were not getting clean. 3 service calls later (and several replaced parts) the unit was fixed...for 1 year. Now the unit is broken again. Dishwasher goes through a cycle very silently...VERY SILENTLY. Water enters, then no washing sounds. At end of cycle white light comes on but dishes are dirty and detergent pouch (released) is lying on bottom of dishwasher, Sadly we replaced a 15 year old Kitchenaid that was still working but old. The new one is a nightmare, wasted money, and we can see 2 weeks of hand washing dishes.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Loading is a bit challenging

I have had the dishwasher for about Two weeks and love everything except that the upper tray is a nuisance. Top rack must be high in order for place dinner plates in lower rack. But then large glasses don't fit in top rack. :(
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Super Quiet and Very Spacious!
from Grapevine, Texas
We really researched the various brands of dishwashers and are very pleased we chose Kitchen Aid. It is super quiet and the racks are very versatile and large. We also love that both the upper and lower racks are on gliders that allow them to slide in and out really easily.

Although we haven't checked how well this cleans under all conditions, for the most part it has done an excellent job. The problems have mostly been of our making. Dishwashers have certainly improved in 35 years.

I've had this dishwasher for about a month and I love it. It cleans perfectly, has great features, and is the quietest dishwasher I've ever owned.
No plate warmer
from Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I can't believe an up-scale dishwasher would not have a plate warmer. The full-size third level rack is a nice feature but it will not hold all the utensils for a 12 place load that you show in your User Guide. The spokes in this rack are too short at 1/2" and should be at least 3/4" so knives and forks will stay up. The picture in your Guide shows the plates touching but your Important Instructions say that they should not touch. There should be more bottom sloping so the depression in items like the cup bottoms will drain. The wine glass racks do not fit any of our wine glasses. It is very quiet compared to the Asko that it replaced.
Nice and quiet

Great dishwasher. Very big inside, fits a lot of things easily. Very quiet. Sparkling glasses.
Worst Dishwasher I've owned
We have owned this dishwasher for one year and 3 months. At 11 months old they had to replace the motor after it was making a very loud winding noise. At 1 year and 3 months we discovered water all over the kitchen floor coming from this unit. Service man out and diagnosis was that they need to replace the motor / plate / shifter again! I called Kitchen Aid and they informed me they do not replace units and will send someone out to fix it. After letting "Crystal" their extremely rude "supervisor" know that it is unacceptable for KitchenAid to not replace this with a new one, she got mouthy and interrupted me, said Kitchen does not replace and once they repair it again it will work fine. I have my doubts since this is the second new motor in three months time. Extremely disappointed in a product that was rated " high end" also extremely disappointed in KitchenAid:(
Best dishwasher I've ever owned

Purchased a month ago and used daily since. VERY quiet. We don't realize it is on, unless we actively listen for it. Does a great job cleaning. The racks are significantly better designed than our previous dishwasher and allow more dishes to be loaded. I was skeptical about the third, top rack, but it works great for spatulas, small measuring cups, long knives, etc.
I love my new dishwasher
By Linda Lee

I bought the dishwasher about two months ago and I can say it has been a pure pleasure to use. I love the adjustable shelf feature. I've noticed that my coffee and tea stains are gone, and my silverware is really clean. My living room is right off the kitchen, and I cannot hear the dishwasher at all when it is running.
