KA has a systemic quality problem
from Fort Smith, Ar
Comments about KitchenAid KDTM704EBS Dishwasher:
About 8 years ago I remodeled my home and put in KA appliances, Built in Refrigerator, Built in ice maker, and dishwasher. All have failed some more that once. I replaced the ice maker and the new one failed after 9 months. The dishwasher failed 4 times, the soap dispenser had to be replace 2 times. I have replaced all the KA appliances and would not recommend them. It appears to me that they have a systemic quality problem starting in design and continuing in the manufacturing process.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Our last KA dishwasher lasted approx 8 years before it broke. We opted for this newer model due to the stainless steel interior, sprayers, and I really wanted the heated dry cycle that isn't available with most other brands. After one year, my assessment is that this washer isn't nearly as good as our previous KA model. Even using the dry cycle with the right rinse agent and allowing the items to remain in washer until the white complete light turns on, items are often wet and require hand drying. Mold builds up in the front close to the door, there is always an odor emitting from the dryer. I have to manually clean this area 2x a week, and I often run the washer with baking soda to help eliminate this nasty smell issue. Every wash results in several utensils and dishes that need to be cleaned by hand, disappointing that this is a standard problem. I've tried the basket and the top rack, problem happens regardless where I place the utensils. The dishes that need to be hand washed again are typically on top rack, but at times bottom also has dirt on dishes. I turn on the hot water to ensure the wash gets HOT but that doesn't help - all I do is waste precious California water. The washer is fairly quiet, that isn't an issue for me. Overall, would NOT repurchase KA.

Chose this model to get the features we needed
from Kansas City, Mo
We chose the KDTM704ESS model due to the features it offered. It has heated drying. The LG model it replaced used hybrid drying and our dishes were always wet. It will preheat the water. We have a tankless water heater, it takes a bit to get hot water running through the lines. This assures the washer will use the proper water temperature even if we delay the start. These were the key features we wanted. The machine is quiet and works well. I like the third level, but if it were designed to hold the silverware it would be more useful. The bottle wash is a good addition. We shopped all brands and chose KitchenAid for the features and the quality.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
product is fine, hope you don't have questions though.
By tired of drying by hand
from odessa texas
expensive, had about a year, and does not dry, and can't get customer service to answer, to even ask a question. I have always bought kitchen aide, but will think seriously about changing on next product.

Not Built to Last - Buyer Beware
By Frustrated in Fairfax
from Fairfax, VA
This is a follow-up review from the one I wrote March 30, 2016. If you are reading this review with an eye on purchasing a dishwasher from Kitchen Aid/Whirl Pool, I would exhort you to look at the dates of the reviews and how long the author has had the machine. They work great in the beginning; however a year in? Not so much. These are definitely NOT BUILT TO LAST! In March 2016, the plastic wore out on the upper level sliding arm allowing ball bearings to rain down and the top rack not to function. We had a warranty so the technician came out and said the sliding arm needed to be replaced. Four weeks later it was replaced. Five weeks later the exact same thing happen to the other side. Three weeks later (they expedited the service) the complete top rack sliding system was replaced. I was in contact with the Kitchen Aid Customer Service rep who explained to me that there was really nothing they could do because there was no other complaints like this. Wow, great service. I offered that maybe we just got a lemon. The response? Gosh, we are so sorry. Is there anything else we can do? Customer Service proved to be useless. Jump ahead six months to tonight. I went to close the bottom rack of the dishwasher when to my dismay I heard the sadly now familiar sound of ball bearings once again falling down - this time? the bottom slider arm. we are still under warranty and in a month or two it will be fix, again. We paid approx. $1,800 for this machine. It was the worst decision we have ever made and it probably goes without saying but I will do so anyway - in light of our experience both with the dishwasher and Kitchen Aid's Customer Service, we will not be buying any Kitchen Aid or Whirl Pool products ever again. Nor, will our relatives and relations.

Our objective when we purchased this dishwasher was to get the quietest performing dishwasher on the market and this product exceeded our expectations.

So far so good - a quick purchase as our old one broke down suddenly, but we are pleased with the ultra quietness and he performance so far. Great looking too.
Great dishwasher. Worth every penny.

I bought this dishwasher a month ago. It cleans my cookware and plates very well. The dishwasher even gets off all the tough solidified food stuff that my last dishwasher would not.
Finally a dishwasher that performs.

We had a one year old Electrolux prior to this dishwasher and it was a constant stream of problems. We finally gave up and replaced it. We love the KItchenaid 44 dBA. The long wash is good but too long we have happiily found that the speed wash has been able to handle all the basic dirty dishes.
