Comments about KitchenAid KMHP519ESS Over the Range Microwave - Stainless Steel:
I am amazed by the versatility of this microwave. From heating up a bowl of soup to convection baking, this does it all. I have used the meat defrost feature several times so far and have come away with perfectly defrosted meat each time. With my old Amana microwave, I always had to underestimate the weight and even then I'd end up with cooked edges and a frozen center unless I watched it very carefully. This is the most precise microwave defrosting I have ever experienced, and as a working mom I do a lot of defrosting, whether it's last minute cooking or taking out something I've precooked for one of *those* nights when I want to feed my family something nutritious and homemade but life has done its best to get in the way. I'm really looking forward to having this as a spare convection oven for Thanksgiving so I can have as many of my sides as possible come out fresh, instead of prebaked and reheated which takes away from the crispness and flavor. I'm already planning and plotting for my favorite food holiday, and this is giving me so many options, my extended family is already requesting their favorites. The only thing that I don't love is the chime is very quiet and if I'm not in the kitchen I can't hear when something is finished. However, the cooking is so silent, I can carry on a conversation with someone in the next room even when I'm standing right next to the running microwave. We have this microwave installed so that it vents to the outside, and the installation was easy to understand and execute. I haven't even mentioned the interior space, but it is huge, I can cook and/or heat up in even my largest serving dishes. I just love this microwave. It adds so much style and function to my kitchen, we had considered the top of the line Samsung alternative, but I'm so glad we went with this gem from Kitchenaid.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I like the look of the microwave but to turn it on why do I have to open the door to turn it on each time that is redicious I miss my old Kitchenaid microwave it was earlier to use after 20 years which is how old the latest one was and still work (just updating to stainless) what a mistake. Although this is much pretty I will say. If I'm missing something and I'm wrong about operating this unit please let me know.Thank you

'Haven't had time after moving to digest all the directions; but, fully appreciate the convection features.

I do like this microwave. It is large, sturdy and so very quiet. It seems to cook pretty evenly. It has quite a few programs that I haven't tried yet. It comes with all sorts of accessories that I also have not tried. I use the microwave to warm up left overs, defrost things and melt chocolate. I don't bake or cook with it. But it appears this one can do it all. My one complaint is the defrost doesn't have a manual function. It has a list of foods (which you have to know the weight for) but no manual setting, like some of the other functions. I use the cook function and put it at a lower power.

Looks great - cooks better!
from Santa Fe
I've had this less than a month but I can honestly say it is a terrific microwave. With the scrolling instructions on the front of the micro for the food you are cooking, it has been relatively easy to learn to operate. And the convection option is wonderful for those times you would rather not use a larger oven. All in all, a great product.
Should have looked at the reviews before purchasing

The built in menus are a good touch. What is not great is that the buttons do not light up! You have to turn on your kitchen lights to see the buttons to get the right ones! I would not have purchased if I had known about the lights. This is a major flaw in an appliance. Both the lights and the sounds should be settable by the customer. I can hardly tell when the food has been completed. What was provided with the microwave is not helpful as a cookbook.

I love my new microwave/convection oven. It is so quick and quiet when cooking/heating up food.My kids thinks it is very easy to use.
too complicated, poor instructions thus difficult to use
just bought the item, had it professionally installed. There are almost no instructions. I look for instructions that tell what all the modes and lights are for. Could find them. because of this I give this a poor rating. I can't rate the performance.

For what this microwave costs, it should just work. Not even a week old and I had to have a repair man out to look at the microwave. The door doesn't shut smoothly, I have to lift up on it to get it to close. The numbers on the control panel randomly blink. Kitchen aid told me that I have to go threw the hastle of having the whole door replaced. They will not let me exchange the defective unit. The door has been on "order" for weeks now and I've called the company that is repairing it and haven't gotten anywhere with them. Nothing but grief and aggravation. For what this unit costs, I should have been given a new unit considering it was only installed in my house for 1 business day when I called to report the problem. Now I have to take even more time off of work to deal with these issues because kitchen aid thinks it's completely acceptable to sell a unit like this to a customer and expect them to deal with all these service calls. My concern is how this unit is going to hold up over time since it had issues from day one. Kitchen aid is supposed to be a higher end brand and I shouldn't have to keep a unit that has had problems since day one.
