CLOSER LOOK: Digital Wireless Cameras

  • Are Digital Wireless cameras the right solution for you?

Digital Wireless cameras offer many benefits over standard wired security cameras including fast, easy, and affordable installation. However, the limitations of digital wireless cameras may not make them ideal for your environment. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of both wired and wireless security cameras and select the solution that best suits your needs.
  • Advantages and benefits of digital wireless cameras:

    • No video cables required. Video is transmitted wirelessly from the camera to the receiver
IMPORTANT: Both the camera and receiver require a wired connection to a power outlet (power adapters included)
    • Affordable installation – eliminating the need to run video extension cables reduces installation time and cost
    • Do-It-Yourself solution – installation is fast and easy. Simply power up the camera and receiver and you instantly view video
    • Flexibility – don't be restricted by installed cables. You can move your camera around wherever you need it
    • Accessibility – place wireless cameras in challenging areas you couldn't reach before with a standard wired installation
  • Digital Wireless cameras are ideal for the following situations:

    • Houses – indoor range of up to 120ft/23m
    • Larger properties with open space and clear line of sight between the camera and the receiver (e.g. ranches, farms, etc) – outdoor range of up to 450ft/137m
    • Small business / single space premises without concrete / metal walls (e.g. small retail store)
    • Cottage / Cabin
    • Suburban homes (small yards with few trees)
    • Renters (houses, basement apartments)
    • Heritage or historical buildings that cannot support installation of wired cameras
    • Temporary use (e.g. renovations)
  • Limitations of Digital Wireless cameras

    • Wireless cameras require a wired connection to a power outlet (power adapters included)
    • Range: Dense materials such as concrete, brick, fieldstone, wood, and metal can impact wireless transmission range
    • Frame rate: At the recommended higher resolution setting (640x480), the live video is at a speed of up to 12FPS (frames per second). Real time video is measured at 30FPS. 7 FPS is admissible in court as evidence.
: Real-time video is supported at an adjustable lower resolution (320x240).
    • Competing wireless signals – in an environment with many competing signals, the frame rate and range of the cameras may be reduced
    • A maximum of 4 wireless cameras per installation environment. More than 4 wireless cameras can impact frame-rate performance.
  • Digital wireless cameras may not be well suited for the following:

    • Apartments or condos: Concrete walls and many and competing wireless signals may impact wireless range
    • An installation where more than 4 wireless cameras are required
    • Underground parking lots

  • Indoor/Outdoor Digital Wireless Cameras

    • VGA resolution (640x480 @ 12FPS)
    • Lens: 5.1mm, F2.8 with 48° FOV
    • Simple installation. No video cable required
    • True day/night operation using integrated automatic Infrared Cut Filter (ICR) ensures accurate color representation in all lighting conditions
    • Connect multiple receivers to your surveillance recorder (DVR) to create a wireless surveillance solution2
    • 3ft BNC extension cable provided with each camera
    • Wireless micro-receiver plugs directly to the back of surveillance DVR
    • Night vision range up to 60ft (18m)3
    • Weatherproof design: ideal for outdoor & indoor applications (IP66)4
    • Outdoor wireless range of up to 450ft/137m; Indoor wireless range of up to 150ft/23m [With clear line-of-sight. Dense objects and materials, such as trees, concrete, and brick may impact signal range]5

    • Out-of-Range alert
    • Ceiling, wall, or counter mountable with the included versatile 3D Flex stand & mounting hardware
    • Power consumption: 200mA, 12V DC
  • Wireless Disclaimers

    1. Camera requires a wired connection to a power outlet. Power adapter included.
    2. Using multiple receivers in close proximity to each other may cause a slight slowdown in frame rate performance. Try to maintain at least a few inches of space between each receiver. 3ft extension cable included.
    3. Stated IR Illumination range is based on ideal conditions. Actual range and image clarity depends on installation location, viewing area and light reflection/absorption level of object.
    4. Not intended for submersion in water. Installation in a sheltered area recommended.
    5. Maximum wireless transmission range. Actual range dependent upon building materials and other obstructions in path of wireless signal.

Exactly what I needed

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

I was able to rely on an excellent sales/technical team at Lorex and get the system that fit my needs. Product, price, and service (then and now) could you really ask for more?

Good camera

By solarguy

from Undisclosed

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

I have been using these cameras for almost a year monitoring a remote location. They work fine unless you mount them too far away from the DVR. Then they disconnect and often won't reconnect. In my case, the range seems to be about 50 feet or less if there are a lot of walls between the camera and the DVR. Of course, you also need to be able to run a 12V power supply to the cameras. For distant placements, I'm switching to wired Lorex cameras.

close range system

By batleh

from Middleburg, FL

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

This wireless system works ok but it is mainly good for close range viewing. If someone is in view of the camera and they are greater then about 80 feet then the image is blurry and hard to make out. I guess since this system is wireless the best it can produce is 480 lines of TV resolution. Field of view is acceptable and night vision is ok with a much shorter range of clairity of course since it is night time. For the money I think this system is a bit over priced but on the positive side, it would make a more suitable indoor security system then an outdoor one. Since it is a wireless 2.4 gz system it has about a 50ft range from the camera to the receiver that is connected to the DVR. It can also interfer with a home wifi system. A setting change on a wifi system can take care of that issue. Set up and installation is pretty easy except for the easy connect feature. It was easier for me to contact Lorex tech support to get it set up because I could never get it to work on my own. Once easy connect is working I love being able to take my phone and see what is going on around the house when I'm away.

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

The LW2110 wireless cameras were added to our 19LW system. The cameras are located inside and out around our farm house. I believe I'm going to need a range booster for the outside wireless camera as iits reception at 50 yards is not adequate. Inside the wireless cameragoes right through the walls for excellent reception

Great Daylight Cameras

By video sentinel

from Lancaster, CA

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

The LW2110s work very well in daylight but at dusk they switch to black and white which has bright spots that cause blurring unlike the Lorex LW2710 setup We already have. Overall We are satisfied with them but if We could have sound included in this price range they would be Great.

Best thing we did

By molly2123

from Brockton MA

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

We are very please with this purchase. There is only one thing since it is wireless the camera do tend to lose connection from time to time we just have to unplug them and and reconnect them and then they reset. Everything goes back to normal.

LW2110 review

By Toolster

from California

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

Image quality is nice and stable if you have strong signal. If signal is lesser, then there is some distortion and dropout. Occasionally, camera will indicate "connecting" and can only be resolved by power cycling the camera. I have camera initially connected to TV, but later have moved it to a DVR. I would to see the camera have a wider angle of view.

Wireless LW2110 camera

By DanA

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Lorex Wireless Digital Security System:

The price was right on this camera. Not sure if there is a series that offers a wider angle view or higher definition in wireless. I would definitely want better clarity. But for the price, easy set up and operation.
