Comments about Maytag 24.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:
This refrigerator has been excellent so far. It is a very solid buy. It is quiet with good features and plenty of space. We like being able to look into the refrigerator without having to bend down. We like buying American.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have had this model for about 15 months. First of all it did not work when plugged in. According to the repairman, a key hose was not connected during production so all the cold air blew outside, not inside. I lost all my food and had to go through the hassle of filing a claim with the store for reimbursement. Now I am replacing, at considerable cost, most of the shelves inside it. Pieces seem to chip off and break when it gets cold. Since most part places do not carry parts for this, it is a real hunt to find replacements. I have seen similar complaints on several websites about this model. Lastly, the doors require quite a bit of pressure to close and are prone to popping open. The light comes on, heats up the top two shelves and you need to throw out all your food if it is left on for any length of time. I have had a lot of bad appliances, but this is truly a poorly made piece of junk. Too bad Maytag is no longer reliable. I have a 25 year old washer/dryer set that still works beautifully.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Fridge for Vacation Home

Bought this for my mountain vacation home. So far, have only been exposed to it for 1 week, but it has not had any problems. I am accustomed to a SubZero and a Kenmore at home, so the doors seem lighter and less solid

I have had this for several years and the number of repairs match the years...now it no longer holds the proper temperature and must be replaced.

My wife and I bought this refrigerator on the strong recommendation of our salesman at Home Depot. The fridge is the right size for our needs, convenient to use and an attractive addition to our kitchen.
Easy access to Refrigerator shelves. Less bending to find wh

So far, we are very satisfied with this refrigerator. Trying to re-learn how to "gently" close the doors in order to avoid having the door not open from blowing outward when closing the other. Stainless...still too many smudges from handling - even by adults!

I love this refrigerator. It has so much room. The bottom freezer is so convenient. It's also very easy to clean.
Easy Access (for the kids and grownups)

Purchased two months ago and now I know the old refrigerator was not keeping things cold enough and was starting to make noise. I like the French doors as they allow minimum opening and closing if you keep things organized.
in the end we like it
It's so disheartening to spend hours and hours researching refrigerators only to finally come to the conclusion that there's no such thing as one with good reviews longterm. I have ALWAYS stayed away from all maytags.... but now, you don't really know whether your maytag is what used to be an Amana or a whirlpool or what. IT's rather frustrating. With refrigerators especially, you pretty much take a gamble no matter which one you choose, so we took a gamble on a last year's model that was on sale. We love the size, love the layout. Like our last one, an Amana, we removed a shelf because we put glass gallon jars of milk in there and want to fit them on more that one shelf. It actually make the fridge easier to use because there is more light with one less shelf. The crispers are much bigger than our 22cu ft. Amana and with 8 kids that's a real plus. We are still getting used to having the french doors, but in the end I think we will like them as well. we kept the ice tray shelf from our last one and on this new one we removed the ice maker and installed that tray (SO NOT into taking part in the #2 cause of floor damage.... leaking water lines on a fridge) but we did keep the ice bin, so we just empty the trays into the bin every so often and we always have ice. Overall it's working great and we're praying it operates error free for 10 years (when it's bound to die) just like the last one did. One big annoying feature is that the whole front is smooth black instead of the textured black and even if we wipe it everyday, it's covered in smudges and it's super obvious.... nothing we can do about that and it's what we get for getting it at $300 less than the newer model since we didn't get to chose the color (would've chosen white for sure) But really Maytag... if someone needs a fridge this size they probably have kids and the black one should be textured on the front!
