2nd double oven range -some improvements/some disappointments
from Binghamton, NY
Comments about Maytag 29.937" Free Standing Gas Range - Black on Black:
I do love the Maytag quality. Double ovens a must. The burners and power is much improved. The preheat for the ovens is amazing - big improvement. Disappointed that the oven size changed considerably going to convection - cannot fit my favorite pizza pan at all. The key pad for setting the ovens is not good. No key pad to enter oven temperature. I predict the keypad to be my first repair.

We absolutely love this range, it has an amazing amount of versatility and allows us to make dinner with everything getting ready at about the same time. The digital interface is nice and has just the right amount of settings. Our only real complaint is that there are times when the smaller(top) oven seems to cook too slowly, as if it doesn't get as hot as temperature reads, and the range burners aren't as adjustable as I would like. Both of these are issues that we can live with as it just requires us to adjust the cooking times and temperatures in recipes which should actually help to improve our cooking overall. We love the convection oven and were really surprised about how quiet the fan runs, you wouldn't know if was working if you didn't see the fan spinning. This product was a huge step up from the previous "premium" gas range.

The product is attractive and easy to use.

The range is very attractive. The controls are easy to use. The double oven is great allowing the flexibility to cook more then one item and at different temperatures.
I am very glad I purchased this range

I was sorry to say goodbye to my old maytag gas range. It was working just fine. But we updated the kitchen so it was only going to be a maytag. The double oven is perfect for when the family gets together. (I can now retire the toaster oven and get more counter space.) I love to cook and particularly enjoy the burner choices I have - from "no burn" simmer to fast boil. I haven't made the Sunday morning pancakes on the griddle. Looking forward to it. As with all the Maytag products I have purchased over the years, I expect to get years of carefree service.
Love it despite one issue
We purchased this oven in black about 8 months ago. We love it! I love being able to use both ovens at different temps and using multiple racks in the lower oven with great results on convection mode. Convection mode is great for crispy bread crusts. Burners on top are perfect for us. Love the heavy grates that cover the whole top. We cook a lot and the large burner gets used often. As a result, the paint on the front top edge nearest to the burner has started to chip off. At first tiny cracks appeared in the finish and then suddenly it started to flake off. I'm really disappointed in Maytag for not correcting this, as I've read many other reviews of painted ranges having the same issue. Makes me wish I had chosen stainless, though I love my black Maytags and they look great in my kitchen. Just upset that a range less than a year old has a ruined finish. The material of the panel under the burner controls is obviously different (you can tell by tapping on them) than what is around the burners themselves and the finish is unaffected there. Also, the reviewers who complained about oven temps need to read their manual and use the oven temp calibration to correct the problem. Every oven is different and most have a way of changing the temp now days to match what you expect out of a certain setting. I, however, have not had a problem with temp. My tried and true recipes bake the same and in same time as my previous 15 year old whirlpool. Gas is different than electric though if you're switching so beware.
Easy cleaning from top to bottom
Liked the heaviness of the knobs. That means that they were no composite or plastic like some other manufacturers ranges.
I love this range made in the USA

This range is like having 4 different ovens. I love the convection roast feature the most. I don't bake that often but what I've done is great. The broiler is really nice and work perfect unlike my 10 year old Maytag gas range. You do have to watch the oven temp. I got a new thermometer just to be sure, but 350 indicator for convection roast goes to 450 -475. Lowering to 325 puts the oven temp to 375. Self cleaning feature worked very well. The low setting on the burners is very nice and really low --you don't burn food.
This product has good features
We purchase this range 2 1/2 years ago. Six months after purchase the 2nd oven stop heating and was repaired under warranty. Now the top oven has stop heating. I would like to know how many man hours is allocated to this range. it would be nice and if the range last for a minimum of 5 years without breakdown.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

A big disappointment
My family worked hard to save for this stove, since we cook every meal at home. It made sense to spend extra to get what would be best for us. This has been nothing but a huge disappointment. #1 Although the double ovens hold a large quantity of pans, it doesn't heat evenly. I have to rotate anything I have in the oven, or it will be burned on one end and not done on the other. #2 Also, the cooktop is so small, you can't fit anything on any of the other burners if you are using the middle one. #3 As soon as the warranty expired, the valve went bad on the middle burner. Not long after that, the valve went bad on the next largest burner leaving it turned on! There is no way to shut it off now except to unplug it, which leads me to the next complaint. #4 We live in a rural area, and experience power outages. I converted my kitchen to gas just so I could have this oven. I wanted to be able to at least light the burners with a match to cook if there was no power. This stove will not let me do that! When the power goes out, it shuts the gas off completely making it useless during a power outage. I'm so disappointed in Maytag. I will never buy the brand again!
Product is functional and stylish

The dual oven feature of this product makes cooking any meal so much simpler. The small oven is capable of holding a small roast, which means I don't have to wait for the large oven to heat up.
