Waste of money
It's doesn't support anything higher that 1080p so if you want a better resolution than that, buy an active adaptor

It is what it is
I thought it was a cable to be able to connect to another screen, but it was just the adpter. Microsoft should display the whole picture.
Perfect for me
Bought this to plug my surface pro 3 into my TV and it works perfect for my needs
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Surface Book To Monitor...
...Works great for me. Plugged in HDMI cable to the adapter, then the adapter to Surface Book. Changed resolutions, sound works on monitor, and settings are remembered when I unplug / plug it back in.

Dosn't work with the new Surface Dock
You would think that this new adapter (sold along side the Surface Book) would be supported on the new Surface Dock (that is for the Surface Book) but it is not. This is a passive adapter and Microsoft support is now telling people that you must use an active adapter.
