Comments about Nikon Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens:
I enjoy using this lens. It was easy to learn how to use this lens in coordination with my particular camera. I would like to buy the 200-500mm lens for wildlife and some landscape photography.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great Lens, Fantastic pictures.
from Galloway, OH 43119, USA
I get very great photos with this lens. Easy to use .
I think it worth double the price. Excellent !
For beginners who want to photograph birds or distant subject this is a very cheap ideal lens. It is very light weight and you won't need to carry a tripod ever. It's performance is very beautiful sharp and VR works great (although I have to say if you don't like to autofocus because its slow and some time can't focus). It's versatile zoom range is very good and in 55mm it can be use as a portrait lens and in 200-300mm it can be use like a telephoto. So if you are in budget and want a telephoto for your DX then go for it.
Lens arrived with scratch on coating of lens

The lens came as an outfit with another lens and the D7100 body. I've never had any problems with Nikon/Nikkor lenses before and I've owned quite a few Nikon cameras and still do. I'm very unsatisfied with the fact that no one inspects these lenses before they package them unless of course it isn't human beings packaging the lens in a box. So my first day using it is also the first day of having to package it back up to send it to Nikon for replacement. Be sure to visually inspect every detail of the camera's and lenses you buy Nikon retailers, in this case B and H.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Best for the price
from Minnesota, USA
First I am a professional I use very expensive lenses and bodies. I recommend this lens to all the d3000 to the d7200 users it is good glass low chromatic aberations and you can even use it for portraits. Parents and siblings all have this lens after I referred them to it and the sharpness is amazing for the price. In my opinion no one should buy the 70-300 it is scrap but this lens is great.

from I'm just a guy who loves to take pictures
I have been shooting a lot with this lens, often replacing the sigma 18-250 that I began to use as an all purpose lens. Using my d5200 or d7100, I simply get much sharper photos with excellent characteristics. Quite by surprise, I processed several shots I took of the moon (using a tripod). See for yourself. this lens is awesome on my DX cameras. this is NOT a fast lens, but I still managed to catch a few turkey vultures in flight

Switched from Fixed-Lens - Never Go Back!
from Duncan, OK, USA
Using this lens with Nikon D3300, it is astonishing how it can focus "on the go" taking point'n'shoot pictures of dragonflies rushing over a lake or birds flying through the air: without tripod, in focus, crisp clear. We did not think that would work without a tripod, but in daylight, it works just fine. Very satisfied as an amateur. Now, we do realize that 58mm lens opening is not a very big opening for a 300mm zoom, however, the 55-300mm spread is more than we hoped for in this price category.

Have really gotten into photography recently, this lens is definitely good pickup. It is very versatile and can be used for a huge variety of shots. I use it for sports and wildlife photos as well as landscapes and sunsets.

Not worth the $70.00 savings...
from Connecticut, USA
Ordered this lens for my D5200, and immediately was disappointed with the focusing and the sharpness of the pictures at higher zooms. I had read that the 70-300vr was a higher quality lens and I thought "I'm not a professional so I can settle for the 55-300vr." Had the lens for a day and returned it because I felt that I allowed my self to settle for something that did not serve me in order to save 70 bucks. I ordered the 70-300vr instead for many reasons including Internal focus, VR2, and the shear speed of the auto focus. Also for the manual focus over ride when in auto focus. Next time I'll do my research more thoroughly.
