Great oven, but magnetrons fail
from Crleston, SC
Comments about Panasonic 1.6 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave - Stainless Steel:
I have had this oven for 5 years, but I had it replaced once for the H98 code. After 2 more years, I got another H98 code. It could be the magnetron, but it's just easier to order a new one with ext wty. Overall, it's a fantastic product for reheating and clean appearance.

Had one before needed a new one this the one I wanted

Bought 1st one and it quit working after 18 months. Since I had purchased trim kit, bought another and it died after 3 months. Fortunately under warranty but have to ship it back as there are no factory dealers here. If it weren't for the expensive trim kit, I would switch to another brand!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This is my second one.
from up state N.Y.
The first on got hit by lighting and my wife would not settle for any other. Must keep the cook happy.
Good large microwave
from Ogden, UT, USA
We've had it almost two years without problems. It is large, which we wanted, but it does take up more counter space. We dropped/broke the original microwave turntable glass tray and just ordered the replacement for a decent price from Panasonic.

This Genius Prestige Inverter replaces an identical model (made 6/12, installed 7/13) that died at 20 months -- but we knew from reading reviews there was a chance of that happening when we chose it. Panasonic tech support says the earlier units' known problems have been corrected, so we bought one again. For us, it is still the best product out there! We think this NN-SD997S microwave is excellent -- really beautiful (cabinet-installed, with SS trim kit), intuitive, and easy to use. It's powerful, very big inside, and it works great. The Inverter Turbo Defrost, in particular, is the best microwave defroster I've ever used -- thaws foods fully without cooking the outside.

I bought this after trying several other brands that were either malfunctioning or quit after a few weeks. I chose Panasonic because I had had one a few years before that lasted and lasted. The microwave works as expected only faster. Thank you for offering a dependable product.
Great while in operation, very poor durability
from Vancouver, BC
This is the third Panasonic microwave oven we've owned over the past four years. The first failed very quickly with a broken door latch mechanism. It was replaced by our local appliance dealer under warranty. The second failed almost a month to the day after the warranty expired. Reason: broken door latch mechanism. Our dealer provided us this new Inverter equipped Panasonic. It lasted the longest - approximately 2 years - until, you guessed it, the door latch mechanism broke. We have quite a few Panasonic products in our home including a 55" Plasma TV. We will no longer purchase Panasonic microwave ovens until they eliminate the frail push-button door latch mechanism.
Door Switch Failure
from Auburn, CA
Bought in 2012 and in December of 2014 it's failing as manu others I've read. Have to slam the door to MAYBE get it to work. Bad design. I'm now looking at a Breville model for replacement.

I recently bought the inverter technology for my home and I only wonder what took me so long to make the change. I like the cook bacon wrapped in paper towels to make them crispy and remove a lot of the fat. The problem has always been that the outer bacon often got burned while the inner was not yet crispy. Not so with the inverter. The bacon is as crispy in the middle as in the outer portion and it is all crispy without being burnt and taking a lot less time to cook. Popcorn and prepared foods are also in perfect balance. The only negative is it took me so long to make the change. Great device at a great price with the best cooking results I have ever experienced in a micro wave.
