It's okay if you need the small size.

This is a great Roku if you really need to hide it, but I would go for the Roku 3. The Roku 3 really isn't that big and can easily be hidden behind your tv. The Roku3 is also much, much faster. Get a Roku 3.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

User Friendly But a Bit Limited
from Upstate NY
I got this as a gift for my best friend's mother - she's a highly intelligent senior citizen, but also one who just wants to sit down and watch television and not have to "fiddle around with high tech gizmos". Since the Roku shows you a channel guide on your television set and has an included IR remote (with headphone jack), and it has a wide variety of channel options including foreign-language channels, it's ideal for her.If you have a Smart TV or Internet-connected Blu-Ray player and cable or a satellite dish, you probably have most of the streaming services you'd want the Roku for anyway (Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, Amazon Instant Video, television and movie channels). While the Roku offers a lot of options (you can find them on their site), most of them are specialty channels you may not be that interested in, or streaming versions of television or cable networks. If, however, there's One Particular Channel you want that your current setup doesn't have and the Roku does? Then you'll love the Roku Streaming Stick - it's easy to set up, has an included remote, and works more like a the television/cable box interface you're used to than comparable products like Google's Chromecast or the AppleTV. No, it doesn't have the Chromecast's flexibility, nor does it integrate seamlessly to your iTunes Library like the AppleTV does - but if you're not somebody whose entire library is on iTunes and you want to watch streaming media in a "lean back" way, the Roku's a near-perfect compromise. I just wish it was easier to add channels than it is - then again, the Chromecast offers that through its "Stream From Chrome" feature, and it's too kludgy by half for non-techie people!
Service and delivery comments:
Got the delivery before promised date - and when I found out it wasn't perfect, I returned it and got my money back.I would have preferred getting a replacement - but still, the return process was painless and prompt.
