A good Product
The article here as written is not correct. Roku 4 has been available for a while now. It has more speed than Roku 3 and supports 4K Ultra-HD if needed. But works fine on HD TV's of today. It is way faster than my LG Smart TV and has a voice search which is nice. However the remote is very basic with some items that are promotional built into the remote. Also the remote only controls the Roku device. I use a Harmony 880 which works on the Roku and all my devices. Don't forget this system is free after the purchase but it is more of a search engine to take you to subscription providers like Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Sling and others where subscription fee's are required. And they are not all alike. As far as seeing programs you missed many are not available. I will say this if you are cutting the cable. This is a good choice but there will be some programming that is not available or very delayed. BTW: Roku 4 has some complaints of a noisy fan even when not in use. It can be programmed to automatically turn off and to me is not noisy anyway.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

we bought a roku 2 on boxing day last year, we love it. However, its one fatal drawback is that it does not have shomi, which is just heartbreaking. PLEASE FIX THAT.

I have used 2 Roku's for 5 years and am going to save bundles of money because I'm giving up my cable. I just don't use it anymore since having Roku. In these past few months Roku offers almost everything your cable does only it's a day or two later which doesn't bother me because I used the DVR alot.

Roku compensates for low Internet speed.
Windstream provides us with nothing more than 1.3mbps which often falls during peak periods causing endless buffering. What the Roku does is adjust the quality of the picture as the speed changes. We do not get a very good pic at times but it greatly reduces the buffering due to the poor signal from Windstream.

One slight problem.
I have used the Roku 3 player to get TV News and Netflix movies for less then a month. One problem; I had to get a second remote sent to me after the remote that came in the box with initial Roku purchase needed to be replaced (because of a faulty Headphone Jack). Now I have similar headphone jack problems with second remote. Can't say more right now given I finally got my headphone set to work with replacement remote after a long trial and error process of reengaging the plug for over an hour. Now I leave headphones plugged into the replacement remote specifically to listen to movies at night and not disturb my wife, and, use the first remote to watch all other Roku selections throughout the day when Headphones are not required. Note: Similar problems with headphone set that came in box with Roku unit and my own headphone set purchased separately more than two years ago that have worked fine otherwise when used with other phones, etc.
