one quiet, one noisy, both good

Quiet air conditioner
from Bellmore, NY
About Me Value Oriented
We are using this air conditioner in our living room which about 17x13 and it seems to do the job of cooling it off just fine. So happy that it is quiet; we had to have the volume on our tv up so high with the last air conditioner.
NO MORE RATTLING !
Finally a small window unit that doesn't rattle, squeak or vibrate ! I use it in my 16×12 beadroom which is directly beneath a black slate roof...it is powerful enough to keep at low fan speed which is ideal for sleeping...even at higher speeds this a/c is the overall quietest unit I have used. At times the compressor cycles off with a little thud, but it is well muffeled and doesn't shake. I am happy with my choice.

This is the worst air conditioner that I've ever owned in my life. I've had 7 in my lifetime. The air conditioner is placed in my bedroom, 8 feet from my bed. Here is why:(1) the motor in ridiculously loud. It sounds as if I am standing behind a large jet. I cannot read, watch tv or sleep with the air conditioner on. (2) it is possessed - the unit shakes when it goes from one setting to another; it screams, it squeaks, it moans, it makes a whirring noise. Once you get kind of use to the horrific noise of the motor, you get startled my the noise of the machine desperately trying to work(3) it does not cool. I have a 285 space for this unit to cool. It's supposed to be sufficient for a 350 square foot space. So, why do i have to blast it on high fan/lowest temp when it's only 76 degrees outside to have my home cooled? It's colder in my home if I just open the window and let the outside air in.Since installing this unit, I have had migraines, not slept more than 3 hour, and gotten complaints from my downstairs neighbor had HE cannot sleep because my air conditioner is too loud!!! DO NOT BUY THIS AIR CONDITIONER!!!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
INFERIOR PRODUCT, SUPER LOUD
from Brooklyn, NY
I was a loyal sharp customer but don't waste your money buying this unit for 2013. I have the same unit from 2012 and sounds fine. this year Sharp cheapened there unit. the compressor is fine but the fan is so loud I can't sleep. I returned the first unit because the circuit boart was bad. This unit's fan on low runs so loud I have to put my TV on almost max volume. I am waiting for sharp to send a tech person but there is nothing wrong with the unit it just runs extremely loud. I have 6 sharp units in my home I guess I am not buying sharp again.

Decent AC, somewhat loud fan
from New York, NY
The fan is a little louder than I would like - I've read some reviews placing it around 57 dba, which isn't awful, but since the unit is placed next to my desk, it's more noticeable for me. When I'm sitting 10-15 ft away across the room, the noise is fine. There is almost no change in sound profile when the compressor kicks in.I like that the louver is a full 4-way control instead of some of the cheaper models that rely on diagonally shaped louvers. That said, it should be noted that the louver itself is not flush with the top and bottom of the vent, so if you sit very close to the unit, some of the air will flow above/below the louver. In other words, you can only control about 80% of the full airflow.Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

I bought this A/C after reading the reviews online. I must say I am pleased with this unit as it cools my living room well enough without turning my living room into an icebox. I was also shocked at how quiet the unit is as well...I should have bought the 6000K BTU version of this model for my bedroom.

By The air conditioner person
My first day. Not hot yet, Don't know for sure. But I love the size. It's not bulky or large, need that for storage. Very quiet for an air conditioner, wasn't even looking for that. Seems compact and solid. The one I wanted to purchase seemed flimsy. I knocked on it. One problem I'm worried about. No place to drain water. Not supposed to, some kind of coil thing. So I'm worried about mildew. Hopefully that's just something I'm imagining. I have a studio apartment, 350 sq ft not including bathroom. My last one was a horror show(LG 10,000--too big, had to keep on 72 or some moldy smell emitted into my apartment, awful--unweildy thing really, gave it away and cut my losses). I like that it says on it energy star. I heard sharp can last for years.

You found the right one
from New York, N.Y.
I dont know why there are comments that this ac is loud, it is not without a doubt. I installed it and people in my househod didnt even know that it was on. I have not had it long enough but say about its cooling ability but I had a Sharp AC before and it worked perfectly.
