great display, all smart features are terrible

Comments about Sony 70" Class 4K Ultra HD LED Smart TV:
The actual viewing experience is wonderful and I feel spoiled everyday. The "smart" part of the TV not only adds nothing, it detracts from the experience. The wifi, and networking are buggy, and support has thus far been somewhat poor. The user-interface is probably average for TVs, but when your baseline is a computer, it never feels easy to do anything. Hooking up your own media (movies etc) should be straight-forward, but the ability to look though large folders in a compact list view is very difficult to figure out (I still haven't but assume that I haven't found it yet, rather than the absurd alternative that its not possible). Trying to set up a network drive or media server has been a bust so far. The best compromise I've made so far (and not an option for all) is to completely give up on the "smart" features and buy another computer to plug into the display. With that solution, it turns out that I've paid a lot of money for features that I've given up on and opted for a computer to do them instead. I don't completely blame sony, its hard to compete against a computer interface here, but honestly, I would have been much more happy to buy a "dumb" TV with same display quality and let a computer company worry about the software and the gui.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great TV but......
This TV is great. The color is vivid, good blacks and filled with features. Not to mention it is very pleasing to the eye.....but the juddering is out of hand....it is getting progressively worse. When watching Netflix and Directv seems to be particularly bad. I have heard of a little juddering in other reviews but this way more mild. Hey Sony.....any suggestions other than replacing it?
SONY ROCKS & ROLLS
We purchased ours back on April 20,2015. We have always chosen SONY products over the years. Great quality and dependability were our reasons.. The excellent picture quality is breath taking, just like you were there! We are very satisfied with our purchase and we keep Netflix busy with movie after movie, so enjoyable on this product. I would recommend getting the sound bar to go with it. We chose the HTCT770. It gives you the theater quality sound. Buy it and set back and enjoy it. You will be glad you did.
Full of Error Pop Ups
1. The most annoying problem with the tv is that in the middle of playing videos through USB, it will say something on the lines of "Media process has stopped working / quit unexpectedly". This happens at least 3 times every day. Don't understand what the problem is. 2. I cannot turn 'Reality Creation' to 'ON' when using netflix. Why? 3. The TV won't recognize the 3D content of '4K 3D' videos, i.e. the videos which are in a 3D format as well as 4K. There's no way to make it recognize 3D...it simply says "Feature not supported" when I press the 3D button on the remote. 4. Cannot convert netflix to 3D - feature not supported. 5. There's no way to sync subtitles in the videos played via USB. The TV has a fantastic picture, but sometimes I feel it acts like a 'dumb' TV. There hasn't been much thought put by Sony to consider the way the users might want to use their TV. It's like all they have to boast about is an excellent picture and a high price tag, with little thought on the user interface and common features. My LG 4K TV (2013 model) was much much better in that regard, even though I would say Sony's picture quality is better.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Hard to replace Mitsubishi rear proj screen but ..

So I loved my 55" Mitsubishi rear projection screen. Lasted 15 years. We've seen a lot together. World Cups, the first season of American Idol, Jack Bauer, 911. But it just gave out. Almost to the day I bought it. So, this TV is still just a TV if that makes any sense. But what I have seen so far is beautiful. It has a very rear projection feel, a sort of earthy quality to the picture. Honest. Not overly bright, but sharp and ... Earthy.

Amazing picture quality with great depth and color usage. Sometimes I feel like I could step through the screen and walk around in whatever I'm watching. I love this tv!

Something is wrong
The television delivers incredibly beautiful pictures that sadly are interrupted by occasional all black screens where picture and sound are lost . This makes it all but impossible to watch something without eye irritation and an eventual headache. I am going to have my cable company check their connection to make sure that they aren't the culprits,, but in the meantime I can only rate the television 4 stars which under the circumstances I think is being generous. Obviously if the problem can be isolated and fixed in the very near term a new star will be born. If this situation cannot be fixed fast, I will return the product and cancel cable. Another irritation is that the bulk of the help system is online. If a TV doesn't work, online help doesn't work either. A detailed manual can, and should, be available in print and included with the product.
A great TV if you are an expert
The picture and sound are fantastic. Figuring out how to use the many features is not. I have 30+ years with computers and electronics. The menu navigation is confusing, help and hint information is very lacking, and some features (such as mirroring a picture from a Windows 8.1 PC) do not work.

Awesome TV!! The best one I've ever bought! Highly recommend it to anyone. Ive always loved Sony. They make awesome products hands down. The best out there PERIOD!
Lovely TV with One Exception

The picture on this TV is simply amazing. I stream a lot of programming and have no problems with the refresh rate on this set. The one problem that I do have is a random lip sync issue. Sometimes the lip sync is off for OTA broadcast, sometimes it's off for shows streaming. When there is a lip sync issue it is pretty severe and distracting from the viewing enjoyment of the program being watched. The issue does not happen every time and it's strange because I have two other TVs set up the same way and have no issues. Aside from that it's a wonderful product.
